Tesco card reader

Is anyone still waiting for their Tesco card reader? I need to set up payees and it wont let me without the card reader.

I applied for mine on 18 August and still waiting 23 days later. A phone call to their help line got me put through to their technical chap who said they've installed a new system which is showing the application "in progress" when it clearly isn't, and that they're working on the system and in the meantime use phone banking.

I used phone banking for an urgent transaction but don't want to keep using it, I prefer internet banking as you don't have to wait in a queue or pay for the privilege of using an 0845 number.

I've written to them asking to let me know what's happening. I'm seriously thinking of using phone banking to close the account and move the money to somewhere that has a system that works! Shame really as it's not a bad rate, allows joint accounts and uses the faster payment system.

No one else having trouble with this Tesco card reader then?????????????

I'm surprised as a couple of weeks ago there were a few people mentioned this on another thread.

I have ordered it but it hasn't arrived as yet. It has "only" been 10 days though.

I went to the site to setup a payment so I could withdraw money to my current account but it told me I needed the reader. So why do they introduce this without letting people know first? A simple e-mail could have been sent out.

Anyway, they said I could do one by telephone, as if they were doing me a favour!
  • Quite agree with Smash. Why the lack of info??

Whats even more frustrating is the fact that after phoning to make a transfer to my c/a, Tescos tell me this is strictly a one off transaction ie NO MORE phone transactions can take place on my internet saver account & that I must now wait for my card & card reader to arrive approx 15+ days?? I hope I don't need any more of MY money in a hurry then!!!

Annoyingly, when I phoned Tescos helpline (0845 6000 873) last night to query the card reader I was put through to a chap who's greeting was " hello Nat West, can i help you?" I explained that I thought I'd just phoned tesco card reader helpline and he told me he couldn't help!!!!!!

Thinking I'd lost the plot, I rechecked the telephone number and redialled only to get the same greeting this time from a female but she told me she COULD help. It appears they answer calls to both Nat West and Tesco!!! She seemed very vague & couldn't help me with my transfer query. Seemed very poor customer service.

So much for instant access to my money!!!

Yet they told me I could make any phone transactions whilst waiting for the card reader - presumably they meant any number of them.

That happened to me the first time too. When I spoke to the NatWest person I told them I had rung Tesco and they'd transferred me to them and could they please transfer me back to Tesco. I was told "This is NatWest, we have no way of transferring you to Tesco".

Day 25 and still waiting for my card reader which is supposed to take up to 14 days to arrive. I've written to them detailing what's happened and asked if someone could physically pick up a card reader, address a package and pass it to their postal department. I've said if I don't get one within seven days I will be looking for somewhere else to deposit my money and close the account.

What's really annoying is that I have the deposit for the house I am buying in there and have been asked for it as exchange of contracts is next week. I've had to transfer that amount from another account which will only transfer to my linked current account so I've had to BACS it to my current account - hopefully only 3 days - and then BACS from my current account to the solicitor's account. Tesco does faster payments to any account so that would have been a lot easier and a few extra days interest too but I refuse to use their telephone banking again.

Don't know about new cards  I was never sent a card when I opened my account. When I went to add a payee the website told me I needed a card reader to add payees and do transactions so I assume the card would be sent with the card reader.
  • It's annoying that they are sending new cards out as It seems to take ages to get them activated by post

  • Just a quick update for everyone.

Ordered card reader etc on 11th sept.
Friday 19th rec'd internet banking card (standard letter in envelope with card & their first paragraph reads "please find enclosed your REPLACEMENT Tesco internet Banking security card) !!!!!!

Following day Sat 20th rec'd pin (again standard letter quoting "please find enclosed your REPLACEMENT pin)

Should I assume that these are indeed REPLACEMENT items and that the first ones (if there were ever any first ones) have gone awol in the post!!!!!!!!!

Still not got card reader yet though! They have until Thursday 25th or else.

Come on Tesco - what is going on?
