    I, errr, ummmm ...

    Why is this thread wider than some of the other threads?

    If I go to that user's profile, it's the same width as other displays, and not distorting anything

    This one is wider because of the image being whatever width, and this screen is set at 800 x 600

    n.b. (edit) I've written this so slowly it's on my page 2 (40 posts per page), and at the normal width as the images aren't in this part

    Wig, you might try pressing the control key and move the scroll-wheel, but I don't think that will get the remedy you want, as it zooms the width of the whole display of the threads, and makes everything smaller

    Instead, go to the toolbar at the top of the browser window, then View > Text Size, and adjust that. You'll find that that adh=justs the font size in the signature, but not in the rest of the post. This is probably something to do with the way the page is written, with a stylesheet defining some font sizes but leaving others wild. I'm not an expert on this though.

    And I'm talking about the way these things happen in my IE7 browser. If you use another, then some of these appearance effects may be subtly different

    That is impossible, what have you got 36 inch screens? Are you saying you see the repeated sigquote all on a single line, and all displayed within one screen area without the need to scroll?

    Here are two screen caps from the comparison threads I linked to above

    Normal view...

    Browser Client = IE7
    Resolution = 1280 by 800
    Screen size = 15.4"

    No problems with any of Wig's examples. This thread still looks like any other to me.

    I've just tested changing my resolution to 800 by 600 and that does affect this thread exactly as Wig describes (as well as looking all grainy and large :eek: ).

    Could this be your problem Wig?

    Me too.

    I use Firefox, if that's any help.

    As I say, try the View > Text Size > {choice of 5}

    this alters the size and width of the text in Wig's quote, and in the signature, but not the size of text in ordinary posts

    (but a difference if I do that is that the red text wraps around on to the next line)

    Now that's Webby's joined the thread, perhaps he'd comment on my semi-guesswork that the size is influenced by the user's default browser settings, but only for some types of text or areas which aren't otherwise defined in the stylesheet written as part of the webpage code

    I'm on Firefox V2.00.5
    resolution 1024x768

    But surely no matter what your resolution is post #38 must be too long for you.

    I get it now, thank you wanty, for the screen cap. You see, she has the long text with no spaces wrapping as it should within the window.

    The text does not wrap for me and stays on one line. a very very very long line.

    So the question is why does this happen to me (and others) only with certain users posts?
    Correction, only where people have long text with no spaces.
    But then again how did that user with a 7 inch screen manage to get the top line of the sig all in one screen and still be able to read it?

    Fine for me.

    But did you put all that stuff in the sig, or as text?
