ty for the advice about V*staprint ladies xx
About tracing the brochures back as commercial waste..... could always quickly rip the front covers off & shred them separately.
Tax/National Insurance. I'm no expert, but I am registering as self-employed. I've filled in form SE1 from HM Revenue & Customs. There's a tick box on the form for more info about SEE (Small Earnings Exception) from Class 2 NI contributions if you're earning under the threshold, which I've ticked.
If it all still works how it did 20 years ago when I worked full time & also did a part time bar job, all earnings in all employment is cumulative - ie it all adds up to one total & you are taxed on everything over X amount. However NI conts are different, you have a level in each job you do & if you don't reach that in one or more of them, then you are exempt. So you could work 5 part time jobs & not pay NI at all, but you would almost deffo be paying tax.
It's a criminal offence to not declare any income. If your AM advised you any different it was bad advice.0 -
This site might help anyone confused about the Tax/NI situation.

This page gives a useful list of all the basic records you need to keep for the tax man:-

And this page is the online version of the form SE1 that I was telling you about, so you can use it to register for self-employment online (easy peasy, I just did it myself):-

The coffee sachets are a genius idea!!!
What i've been doing recently is using the sale items in the Hello Tomorrow brochure as freebies for customers. I've been ordering batches of anything thats on sale for 75p or less, writing "free gift with all orders over £10" on the bottom of each order form, then giving them as "gifts" with their next order. This is an incentive to try and get people to buy that little bit extra and up my sales so that I make the most out of the commission - and if it doesnt work I just return the items, or only do it when orders are low.0 -
sorry.....another tea idea. Most of the Twinnings fruit flavour teas come individually wrapped - might be a better idea than your lidl tea bag. Or if you know anyone who has a card for Costco or Makro (local wholesale places near me - sorry dont know any other equivalent names) you could buy the catering ones which always come individually wrapped.
also instead of sneaking all the freebie ones from hotels you could try online....for catering boxes viking or coffee direct are not too bad or most stationery places will do the boxes of the instant stick ones.0 -
i like the idea of putting the labels on the books... except as i said earlier in the thread im worried about the implications of the books being traceable back to me if i put them in a recycling bin and then getting in trouble as id assume thet would be seen as "commercial waste" ...
If you are dispossing of them yourself Johanne, can you not just tear off the page that your label is on and dispose of this separately? That way it wont have your info on it!!;)0
