Comments

Hi,
I have received an identical letter from mackenzie hall, it is addressed to my husband who has very recently died. I do not know what to do about it and
any advice would be valued.
As I have never submitted anything on this site before I may be sending this in the wrong way, if so sorry.
thanks

Hi MM - Does the 'letter' relate to a specific debt? If not, perhaps you should pass it on to the solicitor who is dealing with your late husband's estate, or seek advice from CAB.
I would NOT reccomend you to telephone MH.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

i had dealings with this lot. Although i knew of the debt i did not acknowledge it to them and despite their bullying etc banged off the standard £1 letter asking for proof of debt etc ( having already ben told by MH staff if i did this they would charge me for the cost of obtaining them etc). Never received a reply so sent the follow up letter. guess what still no reply. I knew they wouldn't be able to prove the debt.
i'm not shirking my responsibilities but if you want to play a game then you have a set of rules to play by. you cant just make them up as you go along as MH do.

Just a thought - does this mean that MH have cashed your £1 cheque/ payment? Sue the !!!!!!!s for not completing a transaction and failure to supply goods. Then charge them £39 'late fees' - which seems to be the financial institutions highest fees- hey - if they don't have to justify it why should we? plus a £2.50 admin charge, then don't forget postage (it was sent recorded delivery - what shall we say - £3.00 ? that totals about, £46.50. Now send in the debt collectors to their office and send then threatening letters for court action.

Great idea - I'm led to believe that a Debt Collection Agency can not continue to 'ply their evil trade' if they have outstanding CCJs against them.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. This is interesting reading. I was contacted by this company Mackenzie Hall some 6 months ago and made no contact at all for a debt from a student bank account that I believe I closed in 1998 with nothing owing. I read many strings about this company and did not contact them at all as was advised even though they sent me many 'reduced' offers to pay.
I have now been visited (whilst out) by a company called Meritforce who are collection agents for this same debt. I have now printed off the letter below for both companies which I will send today by registered post.
However, I have just checked my credit file and have found a default in 2004 registered by another company for the same amount at an address I left in 2001. My forwarding addresses were clear on my credit file as I paid off thousands of £'s worth of debt in 2002 (my last partner but that's another story). I had paid off everything I believed I owed because I was trying to get my credit sorted out once and for all.
This default has now put me back another 2 years on clearing my credit file and I am so cross that a company can list a default without any contact with me at all. Had I known I owed this debt and as it is so small in comaparison to others that I paid, it would make no sense to leave it outstanding. Because this default is within the last 6 years does this mean that I need to pay it?
Is there anything I can do about this at all as I have no details of the company that lodged the default as I never had a letter from them?
Any advise would be great, please.0 -
Have you agreed to any debt yet? this is important - I bet the date of the debt you had in 2001 will nearly be 6 years ago from the date of the letter or a week or two. Again - don't phone! Don't admit to anything yet - wait until after 6 years is up and then the debt is statute barred. MH - pay pence apparently and buy bad debt in the hope to scare people - like us - to pay up.'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts' : Member number 632

Hi all,
Ive just received a letter from these people. Is there any Do's and Dont's for when i call them ? I had a credit report done about a year ago and nothing showed up as being outstanding and no mention of a CCJ. I will however get a new one carried out.
I have read some of the responses which say to mention the 1980s Limitations act and Administration of Justice act Section 40. Is there anything else anyone would suggest I arm myself with prior to calling ?
Many Thanks in advance0
