Talk Talk mobile
Hi, I have been looking at ways to cheaper calls to my daughter at Uni, she is having a really bad time of it so she needs lots of support etc. I registered with 1899, but was still costing £50+ per month, also with Talk Talk.
My wife was looking on the Talk Talk website and they now offer a sim for £10 per month, this allows unlimited calls from the mobile to ANY Talk Talk landline free (have to redial before 3 hours is up!) we can also call her free from our talk talk landline to her mobile.
So we bought a cheap Nokia phone put the Talk Talk sim card in it, and she now calls us free of charge at anytime of the day for as long as she likes. This is saving us a fortune.
For other prices, it is 15p/min all calls and 7p/text.
Has anyone mentioned this before, or am I going over old ground?

Been mentioned before a number of times.Did you try searching?

Heres one of the threads http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=99955
Great if you are on Talk and Talk and you make lots of calls to TT customers. But it costs £120 a year if you use it or not.So the calls are not free.0 -
Yes I did a search came back with nothing.
If I had found a thread would not have started another...daaa!
Perhaps someone could point me in the right direction of the other threads.

Davidboy. Not to worry worth another airing. If you search under Talk Talk Mobile their are at least 4 threads in first 3 pages.0

In fact if you search under Talk Talk using the board search it is likely to come up with nothing as the search doesn't like capital letters. In the drop down box of the board search you have the choice of advanced search where you can tick which boards you want to include in the search.
See sra's guide to using the search facility here
Thread here from Home phones where someone was happy with the TalkTalk mobile offer.0 -
Thanks for that, I used capitols in my search, I will know in future. I am only on this site occassionally so not an expert I am afraid, be gently with me!!
But just thought I would share my glee at not moaning at my daughter for ringing twice a day for at least 45mins each time!! She can now ring as often as she likes freeeeeee...phew!What goes around - comes around

You're welcome, the search can be very tempermental

Do you get anything other than the free calls home with the £10 as you should bear in mind that if you don't, in fact the free calls are costing you £10 a month.
However, its £10 well spent for peace of mind when you have a daughter

OK yes it is £10, but you have to look at individual circumstances as to whether it is of any use to you.
Lets take me for example, my daughter she is on Orange PAYG, she is a student so has no income. She is very very home sick, needs to talk to me and her mum daily. We call her mobile via 1899 which is 10p/min weekdays. There is no student phone in halls. Lets say on average she calls for 30mins twice a day, that is £6 per day. In less than 2 days we are already saving. For the rest of the month yes it is then free. I work away from home so I have Talk Talk in my second home, and in my main home and her grandmother is also on Talk talk.
So after the first two days of the month she can talk as often as she wants day or night weekday or weekend to me, her mum and grandmum with no extra cost.
She still has her PAYG Orange for texting her friends (Wont give up Orange, kids eh?)
Now can you see how much I am saving?
I bet someone will suggest these deals where you claim back after month 2 then month 3 then, but in a certain time frame, blow all that, I know where I am with this and have nothing to remember to claim back.
I am hoping that she will eventually settle down, and the calls will die down, in which case will probably stop Talk Talk mobile, but am looking at the rest of this uni year we will be talking to her on a very regular basis.
If anyone else is in the same situation with kids at uni then I think this will save them money.

Thanks for that David I'm sure it will be helpful for lots of parents.
If you are calling mobiles from your landline, its worth signing up to https://www.call18185.co.uk as the charge is 5p per minute w/days and 2p per minute w/ends with a 4p connection charge

Thanks Edinburghlass, but even in my circumstances and I used 18185, then it would still only take 4 days for me to recoup the £10
But yes I do agree that 18185 is the cheapest....I think???!!
Kids eh, who'd have 'em!
