What a nice idea Spendless!
My gran used to talk about getting a sugar mouse in her stocking - she got a pink one and her brother got a white one, with string for a tail.♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0 -

Nah...go retro...get an old 3d or 6d to really kick-start the memories. None of this new-fangled malarky.
So, nearly 82...born 1923 or 1924? If you want one from the year she was born then it'll have to be a 6d, as no 3ds were minted those 2 years, unfortunately.
Have a look on eBay, you should be able to pick one up at a reasonable price.
E.g. 8352213589, 8328720169 (there may be cheaper available, but they tend to be a bit worn). They're half-silver, so should polish up ok (N.B. this will destroy any numismatic value of the coin).

This happened to Mr TM's nanny. One year she's accidentally broken the porcelain doll she'd been given for her birthday so the father told her she was so naughty, she'd only get ashes at Xmas. That's just what the poor 7yo did get - and nothing else. She NEVER forgot it
That's wicked! Not the ashes, the nothing else!
And porcelain doll + 7 year-old = inevitable breakage!
My sister and I got a lump of coal each one year (although my sis will swear she didn't  ), coz we'd played up the night before. It was supposedly a present that we would have had if we'd been good. (I know now that we didn't miss out on anything!). We were so upset my mum never did it again. The looks on our faces when we unwrapped them must have been something else. :rotfl:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

My Grandmother used to make and dress dolls (she had 5 daughters!) so I am pretty sure that these went into my mother and aunts stockings. My Grandad did at one time make mufflers from rabbit fur  but that was during the war! Other than that it would have been fruit and some nuts. Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.
