Poppy you made this post at around the time I was handing over the dosh:o . I know you only get a few years to dress them up in and going by neice if this year isn't the last then next year certainly will be. It's not a coat dress though. It's a seperate coat and dress. The coat will get plenty of wear. :D

Hee Hee, never mind enjoy it while you can. I went jeans shopping with DD yesterday. We were in Debenhams (cos there is 25% off) and she picked hipsters and I picked ones with lovely embroidery on;) . The hipsters didn't fit (good they were plain and ugly and £20 to boot). She didn't even try on the ones I choose - so no jeans! Trouble is we are getting a bit desperate. She only has 2 pairs of trousers that fit her and I can't just pick up off the shelf as she is slim and so hard to fit.

I like tops with slogans like "I'm gorgeous" or "purrfect" written on for my DD. She is so she can wear them :D . I don't care if someone wants to wear Gap or Next emblazoned across their chest. I think kids can get away with wearing almost anything. The only thing I really hate on kids and adults alike is football shirts (especially on girls). I just think all the advertising logos on them makes them look ugly. I'm sure though if I had a son I would be buying them for him and he would look gorgeous;)

Jellyhead - if fleece clothes go a bit hard tumble dry them on a low setting for 10 minutes. Should bring them up nice and fluffly again.

luckily my 9 year old isn't interested in football shirts. given free rein of every shop in town he chooses asda (but it's a good job we don't have a proper surf shop or he'd be wanting o'neill or saltrock - eeep!). i can't see me ever stumping up the ludicrous amount people pay for the latest football shirts just for my child to walk around covered in ads for mobile phone companies.

i saw a lovely girly dress in woolworths for £14.99 yesterday spendless but i see you already bought the dress from the market :-) woolworths is no good for splodge, he's not the tall thin kind of child. some of his nicest baby clothes presents came from ethel austin actually, i must look in there again. he goes up a size every 4 weeks though so i couldn't comment on the durability of the clothes, they looked good enough to pass on after 4 weeks but that's not much indication lol!

Have you tried TKMaxx for the surfer boys stuff. They usually have Saltrock, Hawk etc at great prices. My 12 year old gets most off his stuff from there(although he doesn't necessarily know thAT!)

  • I've got two boys (ds1 is nearly 4 and ds2 is 2). I've managed to kit them out so far from a combination of NCT Nearly New Sales, lpcal toddler group sales, charity shops, sales at high street stores. I make it my rule to never pay full price for anything.

I tend to stick to labels - Next, Gap, Gymboree but I've managed to pick up some lovely bits and pieces.

The only thing I buy new are socks, pants and shoes.

    They both look gorgeous!

I went up the attic yesterday to clear the chimney of all the wrapping paper etc Santa left behind last year;) and I found bundles of clothes, some brand new with labels attached. There were clothes from last Xmas that MIL had bought but were too big for them and also a bundle of Next stuff from sis for little girl. Won't need to buy anything else.:D

excellent :-) free clothes are better than cheap lol! i've bought lots of stuff off ebay, it's been nearly 2 weeks but not much of it has come. poor roob's only got 2 t-shirts in his current size (9-12 months, he's only 16 weeks old so i wasn't expecting such rapid growth!). i think i'll start bidding on the next size up now to make sure it arrives before he needs it! i've got shorts, short dungarees, shortie sleepsuits etc. that i've bought in sales such as tesco sales when i had vouchers for extra points. i bought in larger sizes thinking they'd be the correct size for summer - silly me! i suppose when they get older it's easier to predict the sizes for next season but i've made a big mistake buying all these baby clothes - doh!

    We all do it Jelly.
You could ebay 'em, or hang onto them, you're bound to know people who are going to have babies in the next year or so, then you won't have to buy any pressies. Just try to befriend people who are having boys though.

It's a bummer when they gro out of everything that fast, especially when your favourite things won't go over their heads any more. But at least he's lovely.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.

I'm in the minority here, but I think Tesco kids' clothes are fab! I've been getting them for my 4 year old for a couple of years and never had any problems at all. There are excellent value for money and I find wash well. I just go for the basics - jeans, velour leggings, fleeces - as I hate the trendy stuff. I pass most of her stuff onto a friend and I've had stuff passed to me as well. Maybe I'm just lucky! I'd like to buy Next more often as I like the quality of the clothes but can't afford to at the moment. I find most clothes get a real hammering at pre-school, so I'm not terribly upset when something is ruined by paint!
