Tesco kids' clothes - false economy?

I have to say, I think you can't beat NEXT kids clothes!! They wash lovely, maintain their shape & have lasted both my sons (age 2 & 5.) They may be a little more expensive but they are great!!
I have bought Tesco stuff, which is ok, but tends to shrink in TD (although label says it can be TD!!!!) and really doesn't last as well as the NEXT stuff. There's not THAT much price difference eg top may be £4 at Tesco but £5.99 at NEXT - well worth it - clothes are gorgeous aswell!!!!!;)20p Saver Club #33 60p/£100

I agreee with brummiebabe, Next stuff is great. Washes well and very little bobbling. Their clearance shops are good value and I've bought some 2nd hand stuff off ebay which looks really good.
Tesco chereokee and asda stuff both have slightly shrunk in the wash, shame it doesn't go baggy as they grow out of them so quick! I've found the sleeveless vest type body's are good from asda, 3 for £2 (although they go through the till as £1.75). They disney stuff from both stores are of good quality and reasonable price.
Boots mini mode stuff is of really good quality and good value as they usually have a lot of it on some sort of offer.
Generally through, you get what you pay for although I rarely buy any of my daughters stuff full price, I'm always on the lookout for bargains in the next size up. Being only 15 weeks old she has a lot of stuff that is waiting to be worn once she's big enough0 -
i agree about next clothes. tesco cherokee are okay but the value ones are no good for passing on. my baby is only 15 weeks old and is already in 9-12 months, i reckon he's gone up a size every 4 weeks so his clothes don't get much wear, the tesco ones are in no state to pass on to my pregnant sister though. the disney/little roo ones are great but the vests/sleepsuits in packets etc. are dreadful.
i don't actually shop in next, i buy bundles of clothes from ebay and there have been a lot of next items in the bundles, usually with a red dot in the label so they were bought in a sale. apparently the sales are great, i went to one once when my eldest was a baby and it was heaving, no way could i do that again. anyway these next clothes are always consistent in size and i can pass them on despite my having bought them second hand. they don't lose the shape or go saggy around the neckline. if you can afford to buy new they have a fab range of baby spiderman t-shirts at the moment, long or short sleeved. i was given one as a gift when he was born, then as he grew the couple who bought it for him have kept buying the bigger size because they're determined that he should have a spiderman t-shirt to wear at their wedding lol! i like the monkey t-shirts myself, there are lots on ebay. i went in to exchange a baby gift recently and was surprised to find basic navy joggers at £5.99, okay they are double the cost of the tesco value but not too extortionate, i think adams and mothercare are similarly priced.52% tight0 -
The way I see it is until the little one is under 2 years old the clothes last about 6 months, so I buy the cheaper stuff so I can pass onto charity shops later. Dont have to worry about storing it and not knowing if ill have the same sex baby next time round. Primark is my fav, they have nice clothes at cheap prices. Wash really well and stay in shape.
I think my view will change when my daughter hits 2 as then the clothes will last a year so I will probably end up buying Adams or Next so they last longer.:j BABY A :j0 -
My kids stuff came from...
charity shops - great for coats because they never get worn out
mothercare - jogging bottoms and vests but not their tops cos they shrink else the sizing is stingy
primark
primark
primark
hand-me downs cos dd had unisex clothes largely and she was the first child
poundstretcher
tk maxx for posh outfits
vertbaudet for odd things I couldn't get in English shops (polo neck popper long sleeve vests for eczema suffering child...)
woolies - ladybird stuff in the sales, but again the tops are sometimes a bit stingy sized.
next came from nanna and aunties! I took it back if it was wrong and changed it for something I needed!
IMHO Adams is shockingly overpricedMember no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

I agree about Next clothes - i mainly buy my daughters clothes from there because they are nicer and much better quality for not that much more money, I like mine to look smart and as kids clothes take quite a battering they are ideal as they generally look as good when weve finished with them as when we got them! Prices can be a bit weird sometimes though - 3 tshirts for £8.99 and then the single one beside it can be £7.99 but definitely worth buying!

If it helps, the clothes I have received as hand-me-downs in fantastic condition are from Gap, Next, and M&S.
Unless I am buying good bargains in the retail outlets I tend to buy from Tesco, Asda and other cheap shops, not with the intention that they will last (if they do it is a bonus). Occasionally on the sales racks of the better stores, Pumpkin Patch, Next and Gap I'll buy in the hope they will last.0 -
Gap always have a sale rail - I've had incredible bargains and have kitted out my 3 children mostly from them. I mainly buy their clothes as I definately know I can tumble dry them and they go on and on (and on and on!)0

I agree with everyone. I have bought ebay Next clothes and they have all been in good condition. The ones my son have out grown are in good enough condition to pass onto a 3rd child!! I found the Tesco sleep suite to have holes in them but feel they will just about survive a second child wearing them and that would be it. Next clothes also look great and have not changed shape in any way.“…the ‘insatiability doctrine – we spend money we don’t have, on things we don’t need, to make impressions that don’t last, on people we don’t care about.” Professor Tim Jackson
