Performance requirements for gaming is not my forte. You'll need to ask someone else for advice on that, sorry. If no-one else comes forward, go to the website for the game itself and look at the recommended requirements for playing on a PC platform.

    Hi all,

Slightly off-topic, is there a Sub-£x powerful desktops discussion or is it a case of searching for individual threads?

  • hi, i'm going to be a student next year so i need i laptop (ive never owned one before). i was thinking of getting a macbook, but even with student discounts, the cheapest you can get it for is around £750-£800. so therefore i am asking for your guys advice:

Budget: up to £450, ideally £400 though
Use: i like playing memory sapping games like football manager and sims, so a good memory and speed would be nice. it would also of course be used for surfing the internet and work.

also, having seen some earlier posts, i saw the compaq, asus and advent ones on ebuyer, and they look pretty good, but as a complete noob when it comes to buying laptops, could someone explain whats the differences between a notebook and a laptop?

    thanks for replies guys!!

    Notebook = laptop
Netbook = stripped down notebook/laptop with tiny screen and only any use for browsing for the net.

Has anyone used the free buyer option on ebuyer how long do they normally take to deliver they say upto 5 but I think last time I got something from ebuyer it was like 2 working days?
  • Hi,
I think you will be better off with a laptop if you are using it for gaming and doing lots of college work on it. They have larger screens and bigger keys. Insight UK have got a deal on HP Compaq laptops offering £100 cash back.

    Hi all,
I've been searching round the sub £400 laptops on behalf of my student daughter. It is her money that I will be spending (for a change!) She would be using it for surfing, watching movies, social networking - wants a webcam. I had more or less settled on a Compaq CQ61 for £399 delivered at ebuyer.

However have just come across a Lenovo at Tesco online for £369 with free delivery and £7.38 worth of reward points. Not sure if I can go through Quidco or another site like it.

I can understand basic computer jargon but I have looked for reviews but am more confused than ever due to there being so many similar models.
Should I stick with the Compaq or go for the Lenovo.
    Please help.

Spec wise the Compaq looks the better buy to me - slightly better processor, more RAM, bigger HD

    Thanks,
I could see the memory and hard drive difference - but it was the difference in the build quality of the brands (I have only had Dells and Toshibas) and the processors I wasn't sure about. Was not sure if the difference was worth £37.
    Cheers
