Sub-£350 powerful laptops discussion

Hi everyone. I'm looking for a laptop and my budget is £400-£450ish.
I was wondering if anyone had seen a laptop with a swivel screen for that price? I can only seem to see them on small notebooks.
Anyway, just wondering if this laptop looked good please? http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/broadband/laptops-and-netbooks/buy/SAMSUNG-R530 or perhaps this one? http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/broadband/laptops-and-netbooks/buy/TOSHIBA-L500
Which would you go for? Or neither? I have read the second one has bad battery life. The Samsung one sounds pretty good. I just need some reassurance!"There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0 -
Re my previous post, a full refund was cleared back into my account this morning the 12th day after the machine arrived back with the supplier, probably what be might expected given the volume dealt with.0

I think I've decided on this laptop:

Can someone confirm to me that it's a good pick please? Or not? Reviews look good, it's anti-scratch (and I'm clumsy!), a huge hard drive, looks like a good processor, etc.
I'm just not very technical, and want someone to assure me I'm doing the right thing please!"There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0 -
It looks ok, though a lot of the computers I have been looking at at around that price have had dual core processors and it doesn't look like that one has one. It has a bigger harddrive, though.
I just registered myself to let everyone know that I followed a link from the first page or two of this thread earlier to Acer Direct and found an excellently priced refurbished laptop. I had decided to buy it, bookmarked it for later and have just come back to it to see that in the last HOUR they have raised the price by a further £70.
Obviously they were keeping an eye on who looked at it, waiting to scam more money out of people. I recommend that visitors to that site be very careful what they put in their basket as showing interest in products before buying seems to mysteriously make them more expensive. Personally I will most certainly not be using that website to purchase anything, and would also recommend that others avoid it if they wish to avoid being scammed out of extra money. £70 is quite a big leap.0 -

It does have a dual core processor, clearly states it in the description. Looks ok but unless I'm missing something it's nothing special at that price.
Thank you. Yes, it does have a duel core processor as you said.
Are you saying it's overpriced? It's a lot cheaper than other websites I've found. I don't really know what I'm looking for though, and haven't found better specs for around the same price. If anyone has any suggestions of a decent laptop for around £400-£450, I'd be very grateful."There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0 -
I am looking for a laptop, nothing special browsing web, watching tv on it, occasionally downloading music and doing uni work. Very tight budget around £250 mark or less! Any suggestions welcome. . . .0

Plenty on here already. If you like using ebay, some good deals on the argos clearance site.
For new, tesco and sainsburies sometimes do deals around the £250 mark. If you find one with a dual core processor, then go for it. Most likely me an acer, asus or medion all of which are fine. I'd avoid anything with an atom if you wish to watch TV and do uni work, slow response will soon annoy you. They're best suited for looking at myface or twatter.0 -

How about this instead please? I think it has better specs than the Samsung R530?"There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as expectation of something better tomorrow." - Orison Swett Marden0 -
