Outdated model, weak processor, small hard drive - there's plenty of better laptops about for that price.

    Review here
    Conclusion
The ASUS K50IJ is a relatively unimpressive budget notebook that offers reasonable performance for the price, but not much else. ASUS describes this laptop as a "no-frills" computer and that is probably a nicer way of saying this laptop doesn't offer much in the way of features. Compared to similarly priced 15-inch notebooks like the Dell Studio 15 or the HP Pavilion dv5 the ASUS K50IJ falls short. Yes, you get a free laptop bag and optical mouse, but the lack of ports and upgradeability are somewhat disappointing... considering what else is available for the same price the ASUS K50IJ has some tough competition.

How can you slate a laptop when it's in a budget price bracket? Of course it won't have the best processor. It's a lot better than some I see.

250GB small? Are you crazy? For most this will be perfectly sufficient and given external HDDs are so cheap I really don't think it's a deal breaker.

Let's quote another paragraph shall we...
The performance of the ASUS K50IJ-C1 with an Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 processor and Intel X4500M integrated graphics is reasonably good. We generally like to see discrete graphics on multimedia desktop replacement notebooks, but the K50IJ should provide more than enough power for general use around the house. This notebook should have no problems running Microsoft office, Photoshop CS4, or playing 720p or 1080p video over the internet. Just don't expect to play cutting edge 3D games and you'll be fine.

It should also be noted the review you've linked to was running Vista, not Windows 7 which it now comes with. This will make a huge difference in itself.

This whole thread is about laptops in the budget price bracket. There are plenty with much better specs than the one you posted. Look above you - there are several that have been posted which have the more powerful Core2Duo or even the newest Nehalem i processors.

The paragraph you quoted from the review "The performance of the ASUS K50IJ-C1 with an Intel Core 2 Duo T6500 processor and Intel X4500M integrated graphics is reasonably good" is irrelevant - the model you posted does not come with the Core2Duo T6500, it has the craptacular Pentium Dual Core T4200, so is even worse than the review model, which was seen as underpowered even by last year's standards.

hi not sure where to post, but I need to replace a laptop that started smoking out of the charger hole! It was only 2yrs old - I am going to america this summer, so not sure if I should get a laptop there. Would any charger fit, it has lots of different adaptors and should I get one that has a manufacturer in the uk, incase it breaks down, if so does anyone know of companies that fix american computers? Sorry its long winded!

Guys have looked elsewhere for a suitable thread but think this would still be the best place to ask - mainly cause it's about the technical spec of the machine (hope you forgive me!)

Been looking at this one for a few weeks - what your thoughts as to its performance capabilities. It's just normal home use, i.e. browsing, downloading, a few documents etc - not for gaming or anything like that........seems a decent all round price for just over £300..........does it???

    Key Features:
AMD Phenom II 710 Triple Core (2.6Ghz)
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit
    nVidia GeForce G100 Dedicated Graphics - 512MB
    4096Mb (2*2048Mb) RAM
    500GB Hard Disc Drive
BluRay Reader - DVD /CD Rewriter Combi Drive
    9 USB 2.0 Ports
    High Definition 5.1 Audio
    Standard Keyboard and Mouse
    Gigabit Ethernet

Was on including Windows 7 but now only offering Vista - I've mailed them to see if they'll give me the original deal, as it was free Windows 7!

Cheers for any comments or even any alternatives!

In short, yes. Good spec for the money, just a shame about Vista
