This is one of the better specs at the moment:
http://uk.insight.com/content/homepage/deals (click on the Toshiba)
Its about £395 after cash back and £415 with the extra memory - the key thing is that it has XP Pro and Windows 7 Pro - which has a fair number of features over the home edition.
there is 4% cashback through topcashback as well makes it 399 with the memory0 -
Has anyone got any advise they could give me regarding my query above? I know this is the sub £400 thread, but I did not know where else to put it, and one of you lovely people might find me a deal that comes closer to £400 !:j0

In PC World today I saw a Dell Inspiron 1564 at £499 (down from £599). I recognise I dont need 500mb hard drive, super duper graphics etc, but it has got an i3 processor which I think is good? So normally, I would steer clear of pc world, but when I tried to get a price for the same spec on the Dell site - it came out more expensive?
2. Never buy anything from PC World
3. The Dell Inspiron 1546 comes in lots of different configurations at lots of different prices. On the Dell website you can buy an Inspiron i5 with an i5 processor (significantly better than the i3 at PC World), 3 gigs of RAM and a good-sized hard drive - more than enough to handle anything you throw at it (unless you are a harcore gamer), and costs only £459.poppy100 -
any advice on a sub £400 full size laptop for email, uni work, loads of photos and the norm? Might get an external hard drive too for photos but will need to budget that in too!0

Sainsburys have a good one on offer if you can find one locally:

Or this one if you need to factor in a external HD into the £400 budget.

I did have a look around the shops because a friend wanted advice on laptops. All I can say is that what you find in the shops these days are end of line models! They all seemed to have last years processors which was quite underwhelming for the price tag they had. For the £400 bracket personally I'd go with Dell.
You can find an inspiron 1564 for £479 from dell on-line inclusive of VAT and Shipping right now. Cashback via Quidco as well!0 -

Or an i3 with more RAM and bigger hard drive for the same money.
