  • Hi All,

I need to buy a laptop in the next 3/4 days and I don't really want to spend more than £300 its pretty much going to be living in the lounge for browsing the web maybe a little word processing and storing pictures and music.

I missed out on this one from PCworld yesterday because I was faffing around it was on at £259.97 they have now put it back up to £399.97
    ACER Aspire 5750 RAM 4GB, HDD 320GB, Core i3 Laptop - Black

This is the latest contender I've come up with
Samsung RV510 15.6 inch Notebook (Intel Celeron Dual Core T3500 2.13GHz, RAM 3GB, HDD 500GB, DVDSMDL, WLAN, Webcam, Windows 7 Home Premium) - Black/Silver

    for £298.99 from Amazon

    Would anybody buy anything different?

Sorry I did add links but as a new user apparently I'm not allowed

    Thank you in advance

    Regards

    Bert

I was looking at the samsung last week; it has a lower spec processor but I think the acer's keyboard feels cheap.
  • I currently have a Sony Vaio which is about 4.5 years old - it has 120gb hdd and 1gb memory - and it's getting a bit slow. Nothing else wrong with it really but I have seen an Acer that looks like a good deal. I'm not very techie minded so any advice would be appreciated :D

As a new user I can't post links apparently but it's an Acer ES528 and it's on the weekly deals page on ebay for £259.99

Just add another 1GB of RAM. Make a copy of your important data and run a Factory restore. Will run quicker than when it was new for a cost of less than £20.

Unless the thing is physically falling apart, there is no need to throw it away.

I would probably buy the Toshiba, but it has no HDMI socket so I couldn't connect it to my TV for iPlayer etc!

The Samsung's Celeron processor probably wouldn't handle iPlayer HD.

An Acer from Ebay or Ebuyer seems a better bet.

Student Computers has an A grade Refurbished Toshiba for £249.98 and it has HDMI but this only has a 6 months RTB warranty, although you can pay to upgrade your warranties on that site I believe. Here is the link Toshiba Satellite L450-17Q Laptop - Refurbished Grade A- WAS £349.99
