it is quite normal now for companies to decline anything other than confirmation of the dates of service and job title.

Merlot is right. What is subject ot legal action is giving a false reference, either way.
If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • at the end of the day what is most important right now isn't future references, it's making sure you contact the CAB and getting proper HR advice

skint - i was in a similar position a few weeks back and had to tell my wife how stupid i had been by losing money through gambling. i thought i could sort it all out in a day. i got some great advice from these wonderful people on here. take a deep breath, take in whats been said to you, stick by your family (you havent let them down, they need you and you need them, stick together, your little girl needs her dad like mine does)

time heals things mate, i thought the same thoughts as you.

believe me and everyone on here, things will be ok.

you are in the right place talking to the right people.

    Hi skintnow

I don't really know much about this stuff but really hope you can get is sorted. Was there an IT policy document you had to sign at some point? I think they would need to have made you aware of this - also how did this come about? Did someone look over your shoulder while you were on a website and reported you? Just wondering how they know it wasn't a one-off thing.

same here - the boss admits the references are useless but its the risk of being sued that stops a "proper" reference being given if the ex employee doesn't get a job they apply for.

Hope everything works out for you.

  • Dont Resign!!!!

    Take The Disiplinary

    Most Is A Verbal Warning

Also By Law They Cant Give You A Bad Reference

You Are Being Forced Out The Door

If You Resign Youve No Leg To Stand On

Ask Hr To Sit In During Disiplinary + Also Someone You Know

Record It With Notes Signed Off By You And Witnesses

And Let Them Come Up With The Evidence.

    Innocent Until Proven

    Just Dont Resign

    Thats Nuts!!!

    Contact Union For Representation

Plus They Cant Dismiss You Until You Have Been Through Disiplinary So Delay Until You Have Got Proper Advice
