They're not confusing hunger with thirst, are they?

I know children are encouraged to drink during the school day, but it's possible they're not getting enough.

Savvy-Sue - my thoughts exactly!! I'm pretty sure they don't drink enough at school. I'm also pretty sure it's because they don't want to use the school loos though - eldest daughter sprints to the loo the second she is home from school!! :rotfl:
  • Rock cakes? :)

  • Well I start making dinner about 430 so I dont let DS have too much after school. He usually has one of those fruit bars/school bars/cereal bars and a drink when he first comes in, or just lately for good behaviour hes been having a lollypop as a treat.

Mine has a frozen yoghurt tube, some cereal, some grapes, sometimes a biscuit, along with a glass of milk, or a cup of tea. I find if i let him have anything more substantial he doesn't eat his tea which is already late at 6pm.

I remember our school toilets being horrible and I hated using them - it's quite concerning really when you think about it that they are holding it in all day because that can lead to bladder infections etc. It's something I really think schools should take more seriously.

Are they allowed to drink bottled water in class? Just having a bottle of water in my bag meant I used to drink it, however I did more in college as others had drinks on the table too, in school I don't think I did much unless it was summer as I would have been the only one.

As for snacks, there are some threads on the OS board you might like.

  • Mine get a glass of water, then a horlicks and then they have the choice of yogurt, fruit or a bowl of cereal. They will eat dinner with us and usually have another bowl of cereal or toast before bed!

Oh wow, I will definitely make them - I remember that was the only thing I was allowed to bake at home when I was at school - I used to love them - I'd forgotten all about them! Thank you!:T

I've just made a sultana traybake with the recipe from this month's delicious magazine:

I can't find the recipe on the delicious website but it is fairly similar to this one:

Brilliant. Massive tray of cake; will last us all a week I reckon; I'm going to freeze squares and just get them out in the morning ready for when the kids (and I) get home. The whole house now smells of Christmas.
