Hi if this is in the wrong place please move!

I had my 20 week scan today and the lady who did it said she was 90% sure that it was a boy:D
Soooooooo do I go out and buy blue? Was she saying 90% cos they can't say 100% or could I have a girl?
Erm I know people may hurt me or something but why buy only certain colours for certain genders  ?
I am a girl and I've always hated pink with vengence as well as dresses :rotfl: . I played with both girl and boy toys and tumbled with the boys and climbed trees etc but still did ballet etc. You shouldn't make anything boy only or girl only. It sends an impression from the start that boys should only do X and girls should only do Y. I belive this is wrong to do. It may seem petty saying it over colours but as babies are rather visual when they are young and do learn quickly it can still send the wrong message.

Oh I forgot to congratulate you on your pregnancy lol. I can not wait to have children to be honest. Hope it all goes well.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D

Sonographers no matter how experienced can get it wrong and genitals can sometimes look a bit ambiguous - your hormone levels can make things swell etc.
If you want to be definitely sure have a 3D scan - they usually do them around 24 weeks and by that time you'd be able to see for yourself for sure!
    Good luck with everything!

Trouble is when they are newborn babies it's often hard to tell what sex they are tbh so think that's why some people go for either pink or blue just so they don't have to keep correcting people when they say 'what a lovely little girl' when your son is wearing his pink set!
Think toys and activities is a different matter and they are for all :rotfl:

Scan wise I had scans with both of mine and they were correct both times boy and then girl.
The sonographer told me it was much more obvious for a boy and but she wasn't allowed to say for sure. Think she was meaning that if I wasn't having a son it was a girl with dangly bits! :D

    I agree...

You're gonna get some funny looks if folk are cooing in the pram saying what a lovely wee denim dress and the pink socks are so cute and then they ask the name and you say 'Jason'!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I had loads of neutral colours so my small person was in mint and lemon and white for a long while but as Galvanizersbaby says, folk don't want to feel awkward asking what 'it' is so I used to pop a pink hat on her :)

Just another wee thing that I don't know if you are aware of, up here we don't get a 20 week scan either. We get a scan at 12 weeks and that's your lot unless you need one for medical reasons...scary really. It'a long time from 12 weeks to 40!

I'm a midwife and just wondering why the only scan you get would be at 12 weeks. If you are only getting one scan it should be the one at around 20 weeks.

Same in our area too- one scan around 12 weeks. My midwife told me that any later affects the baby's ears

(Scanned at 19 weeks for amnio with my first and she can hear a biscuit unwrapping at 100 metres!)

There is always a chance they have it wrong hence why they say 'probably'. Ours was probably a girl....and OH said to me one day that I'd better have a girl or else. lol

If you want to buy stuff...buy stuff. Before you do just ask if it can be exchanged if the baby is a girl. Then just keep all the receipts so that you can take it back. Someone in the family knew someone who had to do just that and they had no problem.

Personally I had 2 scans. One at around 18 weeks and the other 22. On the first one they couldn't see the heart properly and so called me back in again.
