I had my 20 week scan today and the lady who did it said she was 90% sure that it was a boy:D
Soooooooo do I go out and buy blue?
Was she saying 90% cos they can't say 100% or could I have a girl?

I wouldn't risk it although it sounds pretty certain, why not just buy things that can be worn by either sex till the baby is here , then you can splurge when you know for sure..#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

You could have a girl but it's unikely. Scanners do make mistakes, but it's fairly rare - much more likely is that if s/he was unsure, they'd have just said so. My first daughter was predicted 'probably a boy'. My second child (95% a boy but really, I wouldn't tell you unless I was sure!). However, I also know somebody else who was told 'without a doubt a girl' and ended up with a boy. Apparently, it's rarer to predict a boy and then get it wrong.0

Hmmmm
Normally if it's a boy then you can be pretty sure it's accurate, it's usually girls who are harder to make out.
At my scans...if they weren't 100% sure, then they wouldn't say. I had to get a private scan done with my 3rd to find out.
Personally, if they were only 90% - I would hold off on the shopping and either wait till the birth or get a different scan.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. They couldn't tell with my first (shes a girl) so I have plenty of neutral and pink stuff but OH seems to be getting excited and saying 90% is pretty high
I'm just paranoid they have got it wrong!!!0 -
I doubt they'd ever stick their neck out and say 100%. Mistakes do happen, my H works with so meone who was told it was one sex and it turned out to be the other. Whether you go and buy stuff in the colour you want is really up to you. Perhaps buy some coloured stuff and some neutral if you want to hedge your bets!I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knife

Why not have a 4d scan done? The cheapest cost about £70. They'll be able to tell you betterMANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j

We were told the sex with our middle child who is a girl. We bought a few clothes and some bedding, nothing too major that cost a lot just in case. With our latest addition we were given 100% confirmation at a scan at 34 weeks that she was a girl (we could make out her bits in the scan ourselves!) so we did splurge a bit then and I bought things that were more expensive like a pink buggy snuggle and a flowery sling.
I personally would gamble and buy blue clothing bargains if you see them but don't go decorating the nursery in Thomas The Tank Engine just yet - I'm not saying a girl can't have Thomas (my youngest girl loves him) but you know what I mean!
I think it's pretty certain you'll have a boy but have heard of mistakes happening. The main thing is I think to not think too much of the baby as a 'boy' just think of it as a 'baby' for now. I guess if you've been told one way or the other you could 'bond' with the baby as a certain sex and be quite upset if it turned out to be the other sex.

My friend had to sign a disclaimer when she paid for a sexing scan (in the area where I am in Scotland, they refuse to tell you the sex of the baby...oddly enough if you go a few miles down the road and are in another NHS trust area they do tell you...very odd!!) so that she wouldn't sue the pants off them is the radiographer was wrong. She wasn't thankfully!!
Personally I wouldn't want to know..I think all that effort of childbirth deserves a wee surprise but I can understand why some people want to know
Just another wee thing that I don't know if you are aware of, up here we don't get a 20 week scan either. We get a scan at 12 weeks and that's your lot unless you need one for medical reasons...scary really. It'a long time from 12 weeks to 40!0 -
Hi i work in a maternity unit, and also in xray and get to work with sonographers on my night shifts. In my hospital they didnt tell you the sex of the baby until a few years ago, and now a discliamer has to be signed, and they still wont say 100% sure it is either a boy or girl, as they so scared of being sued! It happened years before thats why they stopped it originally, however they are accurate but there are a few who come in to delivery suite and are shocked when they discover the baby isnt the sex they thought it was  .
Congratulations by the way, and i hope you have a lovely care free pregnancy and labour x0
