  • Toot - if you can't find curtains the right length, try adding a contrasting fabric to the bottom of another one - I often have this problem with houses we are staging - also, if it is only for one door, you normally have to buy a pair, so you could use the bottom of the other curtain to lengthen it and maybe add a band of something over the join to hide?

Thats what I was thinking flower! Not very confident about doing it though! I have made curtains but many many many moons ago. I have been looking inthe charity shops for a pair to hack up but havent found anything I could live with!!! I have been given nice velvet curtains which again are not long enough and would like to use them with a contrast but its the cost factor at the moment IYKWIM!!! And I dont want to spend money on nice material and then waste it!!! Will have to tackle it soon as its going to take me a wee while to do.
Also, meal planning is easy (once you have done it for a while anyway :o ) firstly, think of what you would like throughout the week - think on where you will be and what days need to be quick meals and when you can spend more time on others, then check your storecupboards/fridge/freezers to make sure you have the ingredients that you need for each meal, if you haven't, either add them to your shopping list if you really want that meal, or think of something else that you do have the stuff for.
I think a lot of people list what is in their cupboards/fridge/freezer first then do a meal plan from that, but I like to be different :D , but it is up to you and whether you want to resist going to the shops... HLH

I am not very good at the cooking bit but trying so dont have a huge number of meals to make - thats the first problem! Trying to cut down on budget is next problem -will be taking time to read more threads when I can but there are so many and so long!!! And I cant always decide what i would like ...pathetic really!!!! I have enjoyed making a SC full and putting it in freezer fro quick meals and make soup - another problem is I only have the small size freezer (3 drawers) - and I trend to not think about food until I am hungry and then its whats easy!!! thats where the freezer has been good.
Think I will do a list of cupboards and freezer tomorrow as a start - thanks for inspiring me! (yet again) big hug

    toots xx

Afternoon (evening?) all - haven't had tea yet so I'll say afternoon.

Two loads of washing done, including the throws from the living room, but a bird pooed on one throw so that will have to be washed again tomorrow. All the rest dried well though and all folded and put away.

Went to garden centre with DD1 and bought three plants and some bulbs. I think the ground is too wet for planting at the moment though so I'll leave them for a few days and hope we get some more sun to dry it out.

Had lunch there too (roast turkey dinner!) very nice.

We spent a couple of hours on the computer when we got back, sorting out photos for DD1 to order some calendars and also trying to do some alterations on another picture for something else. We did it in the end but we couldn't tell you how :D

Otherwise I've just generally tidied round and washed up etc. Very quiet here now DD1 has gone home. DH is away fishing and DD2 is in America. Good job I'm here to see to the pets.

Glad that's done, another one bites the dust... I think I will do nothing tomorrow...

Toots, no problem at all, I have to do things on a budget of next to nothing with some of the houses I do so always thinking of cheap and cheerful fixes - when you come to do them, it really is simple as it is a straight stitch all the way across (no-one sees the back eh!). If you're worried about cutting the wrong length or something, try putting the curtain up first, then pin the fabric on the bottom so you can see it fits (and also what it will look like ;) ). once you've done that and machined it across, Put your piece of ribbon/fabric/trim over the top of the stitch line, but only if you need to. Also, what about freecycle for either curtains (put in the length) or spare fabric? might be worth a try.

it took me months to do my meal plans, but so glad I do them now, as I try to only shop once a week and then I know I have everything in... Usually end up changing things around, but it's a start, that's the main thing. Also, I can only do a weekly plan as I can't see any further than that myself, but I know on the GC that some of them plan for the month (Mrs M is one, but she is amazing anyway and an icon to us all on there anyway :D ), but you have to do what is right for you. Just try it once you've done your lists - it's not set in stone and you never know, it might work for you too (also, I am very lazy and hate having to think about what to cook, Now I only have to think once, and it's there in black and white so I don't have to think about it when I get in from work!)

Ooh, not sure. I've put stuff on there and asked, but try it anyway, they can only send you an email knocking you back, and if they do, put something that you don't want on there - people come round for loads of different stuff so good way to get rid of a few bits...

EDIT: I like to offer stuff anyway as superstitious - I think if you offer stuff you can always get stuff, - karma and all that...
