Is having to pay a few quid to get you kids teeth checked out in a safe and clean environment by well qualified professionals honestly one of the horsemen of the apocalypse??
Not one of the four horseman for well off families no but children of poorer families having to grow up with rotten teeth is fairly awful, how much is a crown these days non-nhs? a few quid?0 -
My goodness, im amazed at what im reading from the OP.
How about you just get a grip0 -
Zoe,
you get £20, your son gets a new composite tooth (better materials than 6 years ago, and better bonding tecnology), your dentist gets £60 from the NHS and tescos got you back in their store.
Everyone's a winner.
My advice, put the £20 in a savings account for your son, when he's 18 with the interest recieved, he'd be able to afford half a check up with his dentist as he'd now probably have to pay privately. If we're not careful and don't fight for it, your son will have to pay privately for his check up next year anyway, as they're trying to stop dentists providing NHS for under 18's only whilst private for adults.0 -

Hope your sons ok Zoe. My crown came off when I was eating popcorn once, and it hurt like hell.
Ignore alot of the harsh comments. You asked for advice on what to do about the cookie, not advice on how to bring up your son. Cookies n milk make kids happy0 -

No - about the same as an X-Box or Playstation, which I appreciate are quite expensive things. That's why hardly any kids have one, and you can only buy them in very upmarket shops in posh areas.
But - Crowns are rarly done on kids, and this wasn't a crown. It was a white filling build up. Most places would do those for about the same as a couple of Playstation games. (about 50 quid)
But - for probably less than the monthly cost of buying the stuff that rots the teeth, you could easily cover a child at most private practices for a preventative/care/maintenance contract that included insurance for fixing traumatic injuries. (So there would be no need to pay for stuff damaged by gates/bikes/skateboards)
At my place, kids plans start at about a fiver a month for 2 yr olds (I see younger kids free) and rises to about 11 quid a month for 16-18 yr olds.
I'm pretty average in terms of costs. How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

Thanks for this MandyLou a real money saving tip.
Go to Tesco and buy some, then tell them you broke your tooth and get a FREE £20.
I’m off to get some now, I will have to dunk them in my coffee though as all my teeth are false.

You would need to actually break it, great tip though. :TIf you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0 -

I agree but unfortunately there are parents out there who would probably pay for a Playstation rather than fork out on previously free dental treatment for the kids, not the kids fault.
I not what your saying, all the “poor" kids at my school in Birkenhead in the 80’s had the best trainers, I had to make do with Hi Tek!0 -
