Vendor outraged- "it was fine 18 months ago- do the searches again there must be something wrong" er there wasnt, its just that geographic conditions ghad changed.

I don't think the conditions themselves have changed much in 18 months, more the awareness of conditions has altered.

I was feeling a bit down, but the rain stopped for a couple of hours, and I took my mother-in-law's little dog out for a long walk. Walked about 5 miles, and the sun more or less showed itself for a few miniutes. The little dog's a mongrel, so it's tough as anything and doesn't have any of the hereditary problems that the high and mighty pedigree ones have. It runs around like crazy after the squirrels and does all this on 80 grams of tesco dog food a day. So, you can fuel this dog up and let it run for £2 a week. No vets bills, as it's a healthy little specimen. I do think that some of the best things in life are free (or in this case £2 a week).

I agree, but to be fair, I do all that with my high and mighty pedigree too. ;) Town walking is a bit of a problem as every one wants to stop her to stroke her; she's just got one of those faces. She's meant to be a wussy breed too, coats madatory. She ripped her coat off in the first week of owning it (the other dog we have don';t wear coats, different breed) and has never worn it since, though I might try again as it gets colder this year.

Dog walking has to be one of the greatest pleasures in life.
  • I musn't say that to my parents at the moment - their 11 year old border collie had to be put down last week <sniff>

Fashion retail (niche but not pricey) design, manufacture (in UK ) and also buy in ranges...so buyer too. Also wholesale to big e-tailer which started recently and is saving my bacon...in a big way at the moment.

So, you do your bag lady imitation when you go to see your suppliers, rather than your customers?

  • Yes I think the weather is having an effect. Not only in terms of the harvest, but also because this year was the first for ages when English holidays were fashionable. There must have been loads of credit crunched families huddled in sopping tents thinking 'God, how many more years of this?' If we'd had a beautiful summer, people would have been thinking 'why didn't we do this before - the credit crunch isn't so bad'. etc.

I don't know about others but I really need those few weeks of sun, clear light and warm weather in summer just to recharge the batteries for the long winter. We've had about two days of that this year. All we get at the moment is pouring rain, or a sultry gloom like November without the crispness.

Also, road rage seems to get worse in the rain I find. It seems to bring out some sort of panic in motorists (**** knows why when they're sitting in a heated tin box, I'm on a bicycle and it doesn't bother me...)

You should try ferret walking. Oh, all right then, maybe not as it takes ages to get anywhere. We have a cuddly one, and another that is a 'one person ferret' that sits on the shoulder of its owner. We let kids and nice people stroke the cuddly one, but if we have over-boisterous teenagers we let them stroke the other one as well.

I agree with most of you that the poor weather does indeed make a big difference.

I got up fairly early this morning and thought, "blimey, it's not going to be too long before I have to put lights on my bike to get to work!". Then when I left work it was looking grey and miserable. I've got some lenses in my cycling glasses that somehow enhance the light and make everything look brighter, so I decided to put them on. I think I might as well keep them on until next spring.
