My slideshow looks crap on tv

  • Hey fellas what are you all doing....!!!!!......It has NOTHING to do with the dvd player or the cable you have.
I have told you use the real large format original photo DO NOT change the resolution anywhere to 72pdi leave it as is from the camera all 2592x1944 pixels and at 300dpi

A photo from my camera is 3872x2592 set to 300dpi and has a file size 3.23 Mb. In photoshop it is 28.7 Mb that is good enough save that to cd and you will be ok

Actually I know LOT about tv scalers and the sony in particular is very good.
I dont know how the dvd player works but invariably it will ALSO scale the picture (NOT good) if its too large, and then the sony will scale AGAIN to fit the screen
So invariably the photo should in fact be set to EXACTLY the dvd ratio size (Or smaller) THEN put on disc and watched. The dvd player should NOT upscale leaving the tvs inbuilt scaler to do the work.
Until I know more about what is EXACTLY going on though I can only summise. Rest assured if he uses the 3872x2592 settings youve just recommended then the dvd player has NO choice but to downscale it (Making 2 scalings instead of just the 1). Its really down to the quality of the dvds scaler though which im guessing is c*ap.
Also~ Thor? Did you DISCONNECT the scart cable? (Gotta check these things :p)

Im still a little fuzzy EXACTLY what your doing though?
When you look at the pics on your pc I assume theyre unchanged in any way? But when you watch on your dvd player is that through the slideshow you created?
All the pictures are downloaded off the camera and not changed in anyway. I looked at the files on the slideshow disc and they have been left untouched as well, i.e. are the same size and resolution.

    Are the 2 the same?
If theyre NOT the same then view the disc you created on your pc. Could be your ACTUAL slideshow isnt too great
Unfortunately the slideshow appears perfectly on my 17" tft monitor but are very bad on the Bravia.

I did not when I checked initially but on reading your post I did disconnect but it had no effect. Do you think I need to do something with my hdmi connection? As I posted previously, I can see the connection but when I check Bravia's list of hdmi devices, there is nothing listed and a hdmi search does not find it either.

So since disconnecting the scart you now have NO picture?
    Very odd.
The bravia would be able to pick up the hdmi signal no problem.
GOT to be settings on the dvd drive, what menu options have you got regarding hdmi settings?

I still have the picture via the hdmi connection when I disconnect the scart. That is the strange bit as this connection does not appear on the hdmi list of the tv.
The dvd player has an option to set the hdmi resolution at 720 or 1080 and when I switch to this input on the tv you can see a message saying that it is 1080( I have also tried 720).
Actually looking at my manual it says that the bravia will display "hdmi control compatible equipment" when I select the list function so maybe my dvd player is not compatible. This may solve why I can still view via the hdmi connection but it does not explain the poor display of my slideshow sadly. There must be a reason why it looks so good on my tft monitor but so bad on my sony.

You can ONLY upscale to 720 or 1080?
Theres NO option to NOT scale?
If its displaying through your tv then the scalers in the dvd player must be a bit c*ap
Anyways, I would suggest making a slideshow with pictures of UPTO "1920×1080"
Whats the model number of the tv?
Its just ill (Hopefully) be able to find out what the 'actual' pixels are on it and have the best looking slideshow you can get using that particular dvd player

  • alienrik you are giving out hopeless advice, youre just confusing the issue with all this factually incorerect guff about scaling. get real mate youre not helping

There are 3 options. 720, 1080 and sd progressive. Non of them show the pictures as well as my 17" monitor.
Are you suggesting that the upscaling is causing the problem? My tv is the Bravia KDL40S-3000. Is there a reason to try 1920x1080?
