Best get Advice re Budget from CCCS or NDL.
You will need to find £345 Bankruptcy Deposit.
Get form EX160 for £160+£7 fee remission.
I went Bankrupt recently. I got my deposit from a Benevolent Fund and fees waived.
At the High Court, LONDON I went to the Remission Office, Cashiers Office then to the Bankruptcy Office with my printed forms to be checked/sworn. (by 12pm) At around 2pm I got my Bankruptcy Order.
Now such a relief as no more creditor harassment. I opened a Co-Op acct afterwards. (having a giro payment inbetween) My other accounts were frozen and
will be closed as Halifax doesn't like Bankrupts.
I was phoned by the Official Receiver within a couple days and had to complete some legal forms and get them witnessed.

Hi there again Single!
Don't ever say you feel ashamed about BR - or we will be round to slap you! Its not about taking holidays (although you are allowed to have something of a life), its about making sure you put down everything you should on the forms. You are not going to get an IPA because your sole income is made of benefits, but you need to ensure you put something down for everything.
I cut my kids hair too (poor kids....) but still put down hairdressing. Afterall, even decent scissors cost money. The TV licence though needs to be £12 though. The OR will expect it to be £12. I understand that you will be paying 6 months in advance at the moment, but it wont be like that forever. Its one of those things that is set, I'm afraid - but as mentioned, you wont be given an IPA so don't worry about it too much.0 -
Your debts are realisticaly not that bad and you could run a DMP if you wished. The cot, clothes and such could be got from freecycle. I'm fuming that you wasted the money then left your child without nappies or milk.Barclaycard 3800

The maximum she is going to have "spare" is a possible £100 out of her benefits. Spread over £18k worth of debt and a DMP spanning over 15 years?
Realistic???0 -
If you go to the High Court, Strand, you just turn up.
I got there early 09:30 ready for 10am remission counter opening.
You will need Official Proof of benefits dated within the last month for Ex160
You only need one copy of forms for the high court. Print out is about 30 pages but is fairly easy filling out online.
It is a bit of a maze at the High Court!!!0 -
If you budget right its more than doable and it doesn't end up taking 15 years. Our DMP was set for longer than our lifetime two and a half years ago, now its two thirds paid off.Barclaycard 3800

Would they even consider a DMP on benefits?
I went bankrupt at the High Court too, they don't take appointments - you just turn up. Don't forget to go and pay you fees (I think its in a previous post) go to the remission office first then down the corridor to pay then hike all the way to the other side of the building to hand in your forms. Be prepared for a huge queue. I got there before they opened so only had about 30 minute wait but the queue was huge by the time I left. Once you've done your forms they tell you to return at 2pm (or 3pm can't remember) and then you get your BR confirmation and you can go home. The OR should ring you within the week to either interview you or make appointment to interview you (usually over the phone).
I preferred doing my forms by hand instead of online. I found it easier to come back to it for editing.

DMP would only be viable if (a) Interest/charges frozen (b) period is around 5-7 years
I think Bankruptcy is the best option, a legal way to discharge debts. If you were not to blame, you could be discharged within 6-12 months.
An IPA / IPO is very unlikely on benefits.
My Official Receiver transferred my case to Leeds as they are so busy in London!!!!0 -

I don't think that's very nice.
She couldn't get milk and nappies cos the account was frozen with her IS in it.
The maternity grant money may have been spent before the baby was even born as you can claim from 29 weeks onwards.0
