This is a 40 year old woman. Good grief. She has obviously learned nothing from her years of experience. I was muddled and thought you were talking about a 22 year old.
How rude of her. I would give her the thumbs down and find someone who will appreciate your planning.0 -
first I'd like to say thanks for the responses. I didnt expect so many.
just to reply to a few without loads of quotes filling up the page.
Supercali - Yes I thought about this alot - the quiet night out with her sister. this is why I asked her sister first. and made sure it wasnt meant to be a quiet night out . infact it wasnt really sure who was going. a few close friends had rung her up which I knew about and it was always the
"Hello, yes Im having a drink - . . . of course you can come - that would be great - the more the merrier" not the exact words.. but you get the idea.
only her last birthday she had a very bad night out when her sisters ex showed up and insulted her nastily . she walked out instead of coming to blows and when I went to pick her up in the car she was no where to be seen, and I spent two hours driving around our home town looking for her (I got her Dad out of bed to wait at my house) She walked in later in tears while I was phoning the cops. she had said she wasnt going to have night out with her sister next year - so this had improved anyway.
As for marriage proposals - she made this quite clear when we first started going out - she had no interest in marriage. Even our daughter has said.
"I think you should marry Mummy"
which I semi joked "Mummy doesnt want to" to see what reaction it gets. and the reaction it does get is not really the one which would make me get down on me "patella"
Cupid? The Restaurant is at Huddersfield Technical College (now Kirklees) and called the Chameleon Bar (I think) and yes - it is good.
As for showing her this thread - it is tempting but I feel that would really throw fuel on the fire, feel? actually I know that it would..
But as some said that baby blues may have come into it. There are other problems aswell. but mainly this is down to a health worry about her parents. (I wont go into details but they are improving so thats one good thing)
This was a good chance to blow off steam, and hopefully get some constructive criticism - which some people took a different view with a "it could be" reply which is another thing I was looking for.
As for me, I would stand up to any person who got my back up, but as far as the opposite sex is concerned - no way - thats how I was brought up. I hate losing my temper. but I feel its sad that the only times she really takes notice of what she may have done is if I get angry and lose my cool.
"you should shout at her more often then" is what I'm told. but thats not me. and things shouldnt have to be worted out that way.
we will see what happens in the near future. things seem ok right now - we have a holiday coming up. I am starting my next course at college - looking for a better paid job and my manager at work is now pushing to get me transferred to a different dept in line with my studies + alot higher wage. (I am putting myself through college - not work)Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -
Exup, you sound like a really sound bloke - hope she appreciates that one day soon.0

Blimey, if someone went to half the trouble for me I'd be over the moon.
Everything else has already been said.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0 -
You obviously went to a lot of trouble, but I have to say that your girlfriend is getting a lot of nasty comments on here which I'm not sure are deserved. My GF is a very private person who hates a lot of fuss and perhaps that's the case with the lady involved here too. Some people like a big deal and some don't.
It's a shame you feel bad about way it turned out, but this was her day. You'll have to take this one on the chin and learn from it. And I'm sure she does appreciate you and I don't think dragging it out will do either of you any favours. Move forward and keep it low key in the future. You did nothing wrong so don't feel bad.Hired!0 -
Not liking a lot of fuss and being ungrateful isn't the same thing. The OP went to lot of trouble and it wasn't appreciated." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."

Imo she sounds like a ungrateful, spoilt person, and will continue to walk all over you if you let her.You sound so lovely and thoughtful I could cry"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

It's all about perception. She may have been upset, tired, emotional - all manner of things and may not have meant to be ungrateful. Or maybe she did. Frankly I have no idea. I just felt that some of the comments directed at her were a little cruel.Hired!0
