I had that email from Wendy too and complained to her and cross-stitching. She replied saying she made a mistake (lots of times by the look of things as catz and jen weren't on the email I got) and would remove me from her mailing list as requested, though her wording sounded like she thought i was complaining because the email was unsolicited rather than because she was sharing my email address with all and sundry.

As a matter of interest, I always try to choose the options that mean that no-one will contact me and just assumed that I'd forgotten to tick a box since those forms are so complicated. Do the others of you who received the email think that you would have opted out?

I'm pretty sure that I would have opted out. unless it was a really sneaky tickbox.

    It said

    "Dear Cross-stitcher,
Please may we introduce ourselves as the premier needlework specialists of quality cross-stitch designs. We are sorry to hear that you were not successful in the World of Cross-stitch competition for the Lanarte kit, No.35051, Beauty of Asia. Can we, perhaps, tempt you to purchase the kit? – why not treat yourself to an early Christmas present! Our normal price is £80.10 plus £3.50 postage and packing but we are pleased to offer
it to you for only £60.00 and free postage and packing provided you order before 30th November." ...and so on.

Not your fault catz :D Just a rather underhand way of marketing :( You couldn't possibly have known. I've entered loads of cross stitching comps from them and never had a problem. Your comps are brill catz, and thanks again for all you post :T:T:T

(Excuse me for laughing but cross stitching means something completely different if your a regular in the Inn ;):o)

I got it too  I definitely would have opted out - I always do.

I still get over 100 emails a day which are binned straight away. But I don't mind as it is part of my routine, and I've become pretty good at skimming. ;)

IMO opting out of mailings means your entry probably won't be considered.

I always tick the boxes, yes my inbox has between 10-20 e-mails that I would call 3rd party contacts and it can take time each morning to seive through, but as I have a separate e-mail addy for my comps I don't let it bother me too much especially if I find a WEM or 2!!

As you can see from my signature I have been lucky so far.

    Good luck :D

just re read this and wondered - surely Jill you don't think that opting out means you won't be considered, otherwise it would be pointless you entering as you always tick the boxes?

    just curious ;)

    stay lucky!

I read it as she always ticks the boxes to say it's ok to mail her  agree it could read either way though! :D

I tick every opt in box, i have an email structure set up that filters very well all spam and phising, i do this because i read a comment on here many months back from a guy whos company runs comps but will only ever consider people who opt in, i know thats not fair but thats how some do, do it. So i want a chance to win so will happily tick away.
I have a serious anti-virus,spyware,popblockers etc and have never had any issue.
The bonus of doing this, is i often get new comps notification , which is handy xxxx yeah i get 150 emails a day , bt that dont phase me xxx
