I totally agree. As long as the seller sends goods using the method stated on their auction they have done nothing wrong.
I'm fed up of people complaining about being 'ripped off' by sellers.
If I think someone is charging to much postage I won't bid on their items simple.
I have paid £6-7 for something that cost a £1 to post. That's life - I knew what they were charging beforehand.

If buying.. yes take total price into account.

    If selling ... ( IMHO)
Whilst selling your pre owned items on ebay is considered by most to be outside the income tax regime.

Charging extra on PP ( for time spent ?? ) is a separate " transaction" and as such surely should be considered as declareable to IR ( or benefits agency for those on benefits) along with any items classed as "trading"

But how unless you specifically state that the extra is for "my time" how can you quantify the costs? Understnadable for someone who charges their cost in the postage i.e. 99p item with £15.00 postage, but for just the extra pound or two I would say it would be difficult to say.

..Though I guess thinking about it you were talking more about the ones who charge loads. :o

After reading comments from all of you I decided to discuss this issue with you, I was browsing ebay and found this Item HERE, I wonder and just to see how system works I click "Join It Now" due to some resasons link didn't worked( Later seller confirmed that site was down), Anyway As link didn't worked, I thought that may be this link will working after buying it for 1p, I clicked Buy It Now. But still it didn't worked. After that seller sent me inovice of £15.01, including £15 postage. I just ignored coz I don't know what he is going to deliever me but today I recieved an Unpaid Item dispute Notice. Please advise me what to do?

DO NOT BUY NOW JUST CLICK ON THE LINK CLICK HERE TO JOIN NOW

Not sure about the rules. Looks like you owe him £15.01 then.

Try contacting him. To be honest it was your own stupid fault, it clearly states not to buy. You might end up recieving a neg if the seller isnt feeling nice.

If you bought a product from the states then the guy will probably have had to go to a post office and queue - which he may not have to do for domestic items.

If I were selling to someone in the US I would make a markup on postage to cover the cost of doing this.

i markup postage for ALL international sites to about 4 times my the uk rate. i sometimes lose out a bit on places like australia but sometimes make a bit back on places like germany if you see what i mean

this is to save time and effort, my poor kitchen scales can't weigh all the awkward stuff to the point where i can give an exact total. to be honest, it's not put anyone off yet! i sell mostly to americans and australians so it seems to even itself out in the long run :p

Why are there so many threads on here regarding excessive postage? The postage charge was clearly stated in the auction, in bidding for the item you agreed to the postage charge. When you do your weekly shop, do you offer the supermarket £10 less than the total on the bill?

I sell one or two small items a week on ebay. I only sell to UK buyers and I do my best to calculate a fair postage charge. I had my first buyer from a BFPO address, assumed this would be the same charge as a UK address, but the post office charged me 20p more than I had charged him. Should I give him a neg for being a BFPO bidder?

good point here... i don't want to step on any toes but it truly is the BUYERS responsibility to make sure they accept the postage charges. if he hadn't stated the charges in the auction then it would have been the buyers responsibility to ASK BEFORE the auction ended what the postage would be.

I hate people that blatantly overcharge for postage so i always check first and i always include the postage price in my figure for the most i'm willing to pay

i've been in this situation before and i felt ripped off too but i was the one that agreed to it. you just have to take it on the chin and learn to be more careful the next time around. you know that old addage 'buyer beware'? applies to postage as well! just don't buy from people that are taking the mickey with postage prices.

glad you got your explanation but that guy needs to look over his tax laws again. if he thinks he won't be taxed on any profit he makes from his p&p he's sadly mistaken!
