Hmmmm I'll speak to him, If he couldn't give me valid reason probably I'lll do it.

IMO the seller doesn't have to give you a valid reason after the auction. You was happy enough with the p+p to bid on and win the item so why complain now? Hubby has had this happen before.....paid £15 p+p but when item arrived it had cost £7.50 to post. He didn't complain though as he was happy with the overall cost as he took the p+p charge into his overall bid amount.

Why are there so many threads on here regarding excessive postage? The postage charge was clearly stated in the auction, in bidding for the item you agreed to the postage charge. When you do your weekly shop, do you offer the supermarket £10 less than the total on the bill?

I sell one or two small items a week on ebay. I only sell to UK buyers and I do my best to calculate a fair postage charge. I had my first buyer from a BFPO address, assumed this would be the same charge as a UK address, but the post office charged me 20p more than I had charged him. Should I give him a neg for being a BFPO bidder?

I agree with the majority of posts here, the postage amount was plainly stated when you bid, you had plenty of chance then to decide whether you thought that was extortionate or not. It's unfair to neg someone simply because they have done exactly what they said they would. They provided you with the service promised at the price stated, that's a positive in my books.

  • Completely agree with the other comments that when you bid for the item, you accept the OVERALL price of it.
Leaving a negative feedback doesn't really help anyone - the seller completed their part of the contract successfully. Also, as it would (IMHO) be unreasonable for you to leave a negative fb, the seller might leave a negative fb for you too in retaliation. It's not what feedback is for, but it can happen.
  • Also, don't forget, some postage costs are set with a paypal fee 'buffer' consideration.

    actual postage £6
    parcel/ padding/tape/address label £1

and working on a healthy hourly rate of about £8
time spent putting the item up for sale, taking pictures, uploading onto computer, writing the script - 15-30m est £2-4
time to answer any questions, send you an invoice, check payment has been recieved (thought e-mail, ebay and paypal) - 15-30m est £2-4

That's already £13-15. Which makes your postage reasonable.
It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.

Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.
  • If you leave a neg...............you can guarantee he'll return the compliment!!!
Plus since you saw the postage charge and agreed to it by buying the item(s)....what would you say in your neg??
    Put it down to experience!

  • I had a similar situation today. I purcased a digital card reader on Ebay this week. It arrived today, albeit nicely packed, but the seller charged me £4.99 p&p yet it only cost 88p in stamps to send. Now I know some people add a wee bit on to cover packaging travel to PO, but isn't this a bit steep in my case??
The card reader arrived via first class mail, it wasn't special delivery or anything like that. I have emailled the seller to explain before I leave any feedback for him, is there anything else I can do??

the same old story.. basically the way i see it you bid you see the price and you know the postage if you not happy with the postage dont bid.. if it arrives safely then great if not email the seller but whatever if you know the postage before buying then no one should moan .. i never bid on anything im not happy with postage.. and ive also had some that have undercharged me postage do we moan abt them no we dont so take the good with the bad and stop whinging

I echo the previous comments - you should take the overall cost into consideration before you bid.

I purchased an item last week and opted for the cheapest postage rate offered which was £1.30 for second class post. The item arrived yesterday and the actual postage cost was £2.00. Similarly, I bought an item with a postage charge of £3.50 and the true cost was over £7.00.

When I have sold items in the past; I have occasionally been caught out by underestimating the postage cost but at the end of the day, it's a binding contract and I accepted the loss. I have also grossly over estimated postage costs too and on these occasions, I have refunded a small amount to my buyers but I am not obligated to do this, I just choose to.

    Well said Noozan.

You bid for the item knowing the P&P in advance.
    So why leave a NEG
