milk tokens are stamped for powdered milk if child is under one, and stamped fresh if child is over one! Send thm back to the dsss and get them to change them for fresh milk!
  • They're not always stamped for powdered milk if the baby is under 1, since obviously not all babies drink formula milk! A mother who is exclusively breastfeeding would normally use the tokens for liquid milk for her own consumption, though a few might "cheat" and get the powdered milk to sell, thus giving them plenty of change from the price of the allocated amount of fresh milk.
It's a long time since I used milk tokens, but as I recall, they were stamped as requested at the post office. I'm not sure how it works now that claimants are supposed to have benefits paid into bank accounts rather than cash them at the P.O. I expect it's probably possible to change them as helen21 suggests.
  • they come through the post every 4 weeks now and each token can be used to purchaes which ever milk you wish. I just thought after seeing other people auctioning theirs on ebay that it would be a easy way to make a little bit of cristmas present money, but after a lot of thought and reading some of the replies ive decided to not do it and try freezing the milk. baby turns 1 on friday so once hes finished whats left of his baby milk hopefully he will drink the fresh milk before it goes off.

From a moralistic point of view, isn't selling food from your baby's mouth something desperate junkie moms do? I might be accused of jumping on my high horse here, but milk tokens are a benefit designed to assist mums on a low income feed their child. Selling them on ebay surely must be a new low.

I think it kind of depends on what she does with the money. If she spends it on the child anyway, there may be other things he needs more, though obviously selling milk tokens for selfish gain would be unacceptable.
Some kids aren't keen on ordinary milk, and pbviously you wouldn't keep giving them baby milk forever. If they're reluctant to drink their quota of milk, they may prefer yoghurts or fromage frais or something.
  • I think you are getting a little over the top. The OP has surplus vouchers that she will not use to get powder now her son is weened from it, she has seen vouchers on ebay and thought that perhaps she could make a fre pounds selling these surplus vouchers since she will be getting more soon. As the OP has said she has decided to buy fresh milk and freeze it so why do you need to be talking about junkies as this clearly is not the case?

That is harsh! obviously bitter about something! I think if a person is claiming benefits anyway then they don't have a lot of money so every little they can get would help! I was brought up in a house of 7 children on a very low income support budget and it was terrible. I know how hard it is and would say "fair shout" to anyone who can make a little extra by using their initiative it isn't a lot more you can make I am sure!! baby clothes etc are very expensive and so is a lot of equipment

Gosh, aint I contraversial. Sorry Angel, I'm not bitter. I too was brought up in a low income household, wore hand-me-down clothes from neighbours and the like, and still will do anything I must to LEGALLY put food on the table and a roof over my families heads. Admittedly, these days are easier for me than it was when I started a family 18 years ago.
In my previous post, I was not having a dig at anyone in particular, but will stress that my opinion of selling milk tokens on ebay stays the same.

Agreed. But it was not a personal attack on Purple - Smartie.
