The issue of the unworkable abuse button has been brought to their attention before.

The reply in that thread has a link to another thread on the subject with responses from MSE staff.
They are obviously happy with the current situation. They know a lot of us can't use the abuse buttons.0 -

I have just read that link, and the further link contained in it
The responses from staff are from 2006. It would be nice to have an update - this site is far far bigger than it was then, and what worked then does not necessarily work now.
They say it can't be done (incidently, it can) because they can not verify which member it has come from if they were to use a 3rd party script. But they can't verify who it has come from anyway if you don't email from your registered email address, so that point doesn't stand.0 -
AIUI that they don't give many responses to "site feedback" threads, so don't bank on it.I have just read that link, and the further link contained in it

I think the point they wanted to emphasize was that they wanted to be able to reply to the person who reported the abuse. So the alternate email address would not be a problem, they would still be able to reply to the complainant. They say it can't be done (incidently, it can) because they can not verify which member it has come from if they were to use a 3rd party script. I'm not supporting their decision, it's their board they can run it any way they want. It makes little sense to me aswell, but so does a LOT of other stuff they do here.0 -

Yes, it will do, providing you use an email client which is set up correctly - but many people do not.0
