One thing FU make entirely clear in their otherwise less than exhaustive T&C's is the fact that you will be charged a penalty if they turn up to fit the meter/s and you aren't in the property to allow them access...Call me Carmine....

You're very welcome. T&C's pdf (section 5.1) Here's the exact wording:Energy
Meters
By entering into this contract you agree to have your existing meter replaced with an AMR meter, where such a meter is not already installed. The installation may require a short interruption to your supply. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we will have no liability in respect of such interruption. We or our representative will contact you to agree a convenient time for the replacement of your meter. Your failure to honour this appointment by not being at the premises or not providing access will result in an abortive visit charge. An abortive visit charge will be levied on each subsequent occasion that you fail to honour a booked appointment. A list of all our charges and tariffs is available on request from customer services or can be freely accessed online through our website.Call me Carmine....

Righty. Just switched to these using Uswitch. I will report back on how it goes.
My reasons for switching are:
My existing meter is an old E7 one whereas I'm on a single tariff plan. Switching will enable me to be more flexible with the hot water / storage heaters (which have both been off all winter). I.e. if it is very cold I could switch to the dual tariff temporarily and use the storage heaters.
I like the home display unit.
The current prices are competitive with Eon and in fact cheaper for very low usage. The standing charge is much less than Eon (~£25 per year vs ~£234).
A £50 termination fee is not the end of the world if I get a modern meter out of it.
I really think this company could end up taking a large chunk of the UK market. It's about time a company came along doing something different to drag the cartel into the modern world. If by switching I've contributed in some small way to modern metering for all then I'm happy.0 -

Do you really? I suppose time will tell but I'm far less optmistic. I don't recall one customer of theirs on here so far. Not having a go, I think ANY smaller rival to the Big 6 with a 'different' approach should be welcomed and I hope you are happy with them (still can't see them being anything but a bit-part player, though)...Call me Carmine....

I think they will be initially very successful and it will force the big 6 to mimic them with the home display unit and smart meters.
There are a lot of people out there who will be very eager to get access to the display unit and the stats. Maybe it's a bit sad, but I cannot wait to show the meter to people and I'd expect my friends+family to want one also when they see it.0 -
Well done you for taking the plunge.
Please keep a diary here of how the switch goes, as I am seriously considering switching and I'll be very interested to know how it goes.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

Hello folks !
I live in the SWEB area and have noticed that First Utility have just hiked their standing charges dramatically.
Currently the SC for gas is 24.15p per day whereas in January it was 4.96p per day. This equates to an extra £70.04 per year.
In addition, their single rate SC for electricity is now 17.85p per day compared to 1.54p per day. This equates to an extra £59.53 per year.
I was seriously thinking of switching to FU but will stay on the sidelines at present.
