first:utility - new energy company launches

The reason for my visit today is that I signed up to First:utility isave tarriff back in November last year as when I went on Uswitch they came up as saving me £300 a year on my energy.
I've been having problems with Scottish Power for months where basically in April 2009 they put my bill up from a comfortable £50-£60 a month dual fuel to a huge £105 a month bill. They argued telling me it was due to increased oil prices. They wouldn't help me! It was the summer so I knew there was no way in hell that we would use anywhere near that. Come October 2009. I was in credit by £100 (£70 gas and £30 electric), they still tried to increased my monthly payment again to £115. I told them that I was £100 in credit and they said it was because they'd made an error over the summer and charged me too much (understatement of the year). I asked if I could have the £100 back and they said 'no' that they would use it over the winter months should I get in debt with them.
In the end I just let it be. But we live in a small 2 bedroom terrace house, we work during the day and it appeared to me that scottish power were charging me for being their 24/7. I read my meter every time they asked and was always in credit but they wouldn't lower the amount. I then spoke to my father-in-law who is retired, is home all day etc and his bill was £30 less than ours a month! I moaned at scottish power again saying that I couldn't afford the £115 a month as it was more than my council tax. I was told that energy prices were rising blah blah but within a few weeks British gas had announced they were cutting their prices!
I turned to Uswitch and they came up with first:utility and so far I can't complain to begin with they mucked up on my original electricity meter reading adding an extra digit and this took them two months to sort out so I had a large electricity bill in January but so far I've saved £30 a month and thats with the standing charge.
I also had a nice southern electric man knock on my door yesterday who spent 45 minutes trying to get me to go back to them. He was convinced that first:utility were expensive and he could beat their prices. He was shocked when he could only save me £10 on each a month! He tried the usual their prices will be fixed and they will only monitor my usage and wouldn't a fixed direct debit be better for me. I couldn't remember at the time why I'd originally left them and then I remembered that every quarter I'd get an estimated bill and I'd give them my meter reading and some how they would either disgard my reading or try and increase my bill.
I don't want to have to keep changing suppliers. It costs me money everytime I want to get out of my contracts and I'm fed up of every 3 months a different energy supplier knocking on my door trying to get me a better deal. Next month it will be british gas! But for this year at least I would like to see if First:Utility can save me as much as they say they can. Can be anyworse than scottish power! Will be debt free by December 2016. Total debt £6207.35 . £188 per month on a DMP with Payplan.
