This has happened to me maybe 3 or 4 times over the last 6months with Tesco. If you call the customer seervice dept at your store and tell them you've bought meat that's off you can bin it and take back the labelling instead along with receipt. Is pretty annoying though - happened to me with the Xmas dinner turkey and ended up having to eat the New Year roast beef from freezer for Christmas dinner (Tesco again).

You don't have to make a special trip back to the store - that's unreasonable.

Call your store, tell them the goods are no good and that you aren't going to come back to the store as it's x miles away or inconvenient or whatever. Get them to make a note in their desk diary of your call, and to refund you when you make your next scheduled visit to the store.

I agree, so in my case I emailed to tell them the THREE incidents I'd had with meat going off, and which store I'd bought it from. They must employ some stupid people, as their reply said:
    Thank you for your email.
I'm sorry that there we so many problems with your grocery order.
I can understand how disappointing this must have been.
So I can process the refund for you, can you please forward the
following information: Delivery date or Order number.......
Order? Did I not just say I bought it in a store?? I replied requesting that they actually read the complaint, and they replied (bearing in mind I told them that the meat had been purchased a month ago, and they had failed to reply to my written letter):
    Thank you for your reply
I'm very sorry that you had a problem with your meat purchased in the store.
I can understand how disappointed you must be.
If you do still have the packaging, please take it to your local store with a sample of the product
I'm now starting to think they perhaps employ robots to answer emails!! I'm not sure why I would keep gone off meat for a whole month! :rotfl:
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

    What muppets.

I honestly believe phoning is far better to sort out store-related queries, rather than e-mailing.
  • What did Sir Terry Leahy say?
I mean, only the other day I was discussing SOGA and trading standards with Mr James Sainsburys when in walked ol beardy, Richard Branston. Anyway he said hed just been in Tesco and brought some out of date pickle. We chuckled to ourselves when we thought he was referring to the 'pickle' he got into with buying virginmedia and getting rid off sky one!

Anyway I digress, regarding the meat. Go to Tesco on your next visit and tell the consumer happiness division about the meat. Explain that it was out od date and smelt really awful, infact ask marleyboy to breath on them so they can ascertain for themselves that the meat stunk!

No, I think Marleyboys annoying pictures beat that.
  • I have had the same problem countless times. Mostly though with their chicken, and not even the value stuff. In fact I have got some in the fridge now which I was intending to use this evening but it stinks! The use by date is 2 days away. I usually find that if I take it back they will replace it. I did ask them last time if they would refund the petrol costs for returning it. But I think that was going a bit too far. Worth the try though!
  • I have also had the problem several times! gve up and freeze it as soon as I buy it now.
