Tesco Minced Beef, waste of money!

I make the error of buying Tesco Lean Minced Beef when I was running short of time to get to the butcher.

The 2 packs of beef had use by dates of four days from the day i bought it. I put then in the fridge and didn't use it till the next day.

I came to use it the next day and the beef was brown (looked like it'd been cooked) and the plastic film on the top had become concave (which it wasn't the day before). I opened it and the smell was foul! The ret of the food in my fridge was fine and I checked the temp which was bang on.

Has anyone else had this problem before? It's a fiver of my money i'll never see again.

On the plus side I went to iceland and bought a massive bag of frozen lean mince for £3.

If I were you I would take it back and complain if thats possible...it obviously wasnt stored properly at their end and they should refund you the money! I have done this in the past with a chicken. I didnt eat chicken for about 2 years after because of the smell....erghhhhhuuuu.
I have had this problem with supermarket mince also, it just doesnt seem to keep and I have been guilty of just throwing it out, so now I generally freeze on day of purchase if its not cooked that day (but I do buy from butchers usually).

    Take it back!
That awful, im not saying its their fault as these things happen.
Ideally they should refund you without hesitation, phone first and speak to customer services and try and wangle at least a free pack to compensate you for making another journey back to their store.

Take it back - add my name! If you have the receipt, just take that, bet it was a batch and you won't be the first.

Don't be daft. Take it back!!!! They will refund you without question.
Life is too short to waste a minute of it complaining about bad luck. Find joy in the simple things, show your love for those around you and be grateful for all that you have. :)
  • Hi there! I'm sure Tesco will refund without question ;)

As this isn't strictly Old Style, and has fallen from the front page, I'll move it to the Vent Board.

  • I find this happening a lot with Tesco meat. I took a chicken back to a store near me (which I had only bought the day before) and said I was fed up with this keep happening, but the CS man just looked at me blankly/stupidly & said it was the first he'd heard of any problems... yeah, right! If I know I won't use the meat the same day, I put it straight in the freezer. Although I try not to buy it from Mr T any more but go elsewhere.

I emailed Tesco to complain a few months ago about the exact same thing. Not just with mince though, it was also with some very expensive steaks which smelt very off despite being several days before their use by date!

I don't buy supermarket meat any more if I can help it!

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

I threw it straight in the bin, it was rancid! It did actually smell like it had been sat in the bin when i opened it. Yuck.

It has made me question how long food has been lying around for before getting to the consumer.

It's good (and bad) to know that it's not just me it's happened too. I haven't got the packaging anymore so i'll make extra sure to avoid them in future. x
