It's true. As far as I'm aware it was announced a few years back. I really don't know the ins and outs of it, but I'm sure the Catholic church has studied the subject intensely.0 -

I don't think the church named it animal purgatory, but they did say dead animals went to a place of spiritual limbo between heaven and earth. I'm not sure if you can pray for their souls like you can for humans in purgatory, but I remember the church stating dead animals were in limbo after they died.0 -
the catholic church...they believe in animal purgatory/limbo but they don't believe in promoting the use of contraception to stop the spread of diseases and teenage pregnancies. i don't get it.

and who had their cat gassed? i have never heard of an animal being put to sleep like that by a vet. i always thought it was an injection in the leg (or stomach if no leg veins were suitable).
hope you are bearing up OK Doodles and Mazza...tough times, you have my sympathies *hugs*0 -
oh blimey, they have invaded - Pretani and The devil made me do it, how dare you call this thread innapropriate then post such a load of insensitive mumbo jumbo? - animal purgatory and having your cat gassed or electrocuted are really not helpful to the OP and do not answer her orignial query - stop hi-jacking and have some sensitivity and common sense!
Actually just looking back over your posts I wonder if you are taking the p***? I think that the vet is best advised on how to painlessly euthanise an animal, not someone who seems to be speculating about ways of dispatching cats when they clearly know nothing about it. (your speculative ideas are not even based in reality, electric stunning does not kill an animal at all let alone instantly, and what a ridiculous and insensitive idea to even post this)
Doodles, I am glad all went as well as it could do for your little old cat - it sounds like he had a good life and a peaceful death and was loved and cared for. I think that is the best all of us, animal or human can hope for, so he was lucky.
I hope your son is bearing up ok after losing the cat, perhaps one advantage of children having animals is that they begin to understand life and death better, and with less fear.0 -

Excuse me, what the hell are you talking about?? This issue has been resolved and dosen't need the addition of further opinions, especially when you have clearly not read my posts correctly.0 -

What the hell are you talking about?? You come on stating that I have 'invaded' and posted 'insensitive mumbo jumbo'. I have never meant to be insensitive. You also claimed 'animal purgatory and having your cat gassed or electrocuted are really not helpful to the OP' Who gave you the authority to know what is or what isn't helpful to the OP. You also claimed I was 'high-jacking' the thread. Well, if that is the case I didn't intent to and will stop posting on this thread as you seem to be holding the position of judge, jury and executioner.0 -
I just wanted to express my sympathy to you Doodles.
My cat is 16 and I believe we are at the start of the slippery slope downwards, he is starting to lose weight although he seems alright in other areas.
I have only ever had one cat put to sleep and wished I had advise before, although it was painless and peaceful I didn't think it would be quite so quick. She was there one moment and gone the next.
I would just like to say thank you for starting this post, it is sometimes easier to cope when we know what to expect. I am dreading the day my clyde has to go, it is nice that there are so many caring individuals on this site to share both good and sad aspects of our lives.Payment a day challenge: £236.69
