What happens when a cat is put to sleep?

I feel you've obviously got no heart for this caring cat owner. when a pet that is so loved dies you need all the support you can get. All doodles did was ask for advice and people who care replied. if you've got nothing nice to say don't say anything at all!!:mad:the_devil_made_me_do_it wrote: »I feel for you doodles, but not sure this forum is the appropriate place for your post.
I found it rather alarming/upsetting when I initially saw the thread title, could've done without it.0 -
i agree with you Moogy, what an insensitive thing to say. the Devil didn't have to actually read the thread if they found it upsetting...and if they got upset *just* by the title then they need to get out there and face the real world...0

And I find it rather upsetting you would be criticising at such a difficult time for me. You don't have to read the thread and quite frankly if you're that sensitive to 'titles' perhaps you shouldn't bother visiting forums in the first place.
"Appropriate place for your post"???? - it was the pets and pet care forum for god sake.
Please don't bother responding to this post - I'm just not in the mood for nonsense like that, thank you.0 -
You poor thing, I had to do the same thing over 8 years ago and still not got over it, I miss her like crazy.
I hated having to put her through that but she was so sick and she actually cried one day so that made my mind up as I didn't want her to be in any pain. It will probably be the hardest thing you will ever have to do I know it was for me but I couldn't let her be in pain anymore even though I wanted her with me forever.
I held her and cuddled her and she didn't even whimper when they gave her her jab bless her. I just kept saying sorry to her, I know I told her I loved her before we went in but my mind was just so over the place I didn't get another chance as she fell still in my arms..........................
Im blubbing as I write this toooo!!:A0 -
Ok for a start this is a money saving forum, not a place to discuss what happens when a cat is put to sleep.
For everyones information, I have had to watch 3 of my cats get put to sleep. One after it was hit by an insensitive car driver who drove off and left my shamus badly injured by the side of the road, another cat (Silas) after it was attacked by a pit bull which was off it's leash & then a stray I'd taken in (Mia), which I later found out (after 5 yrs of loving it to bits), that it was dying of cat aids. So don't dare tell me that I am insensitive! I have distressing experience of pet euthanasia, and each case has been very different. Mia's death was the horriblest by far. The day she was put to sleep, we saw a young vet whom had no experience of Mia, he'd never seen her before. Her mouth was very sore and without checking the notes, he roughly tried opening her mouth & she hissed and went to bite him. His reaction was to wrap her head in a towel before giving her an injection straight into her heart. Mia was a gentle cat, very placid usually, but he just assumed she was a nasty cat. He left me alone with Mia, and when I removed the towel, she vomited very harshly and meowed in a most pitiful way before finally giving up the ghost.
I do hope that gives people a good indication of what CAN happen when a cat is put to sleep.0 -
To Doodles. Im sorry to hear about your cat being put down. It brought tears to my eyes. And as said already, there is no problem with asking for advice. It was nice to have an update, even though it was sad news. But at least your cat is not suffering no more. And im glad to hear it all went ok. RIP xxxxxxxxxxxxx hope you & your family are keeping as well as possible xxxxProud mummy to 3 beautiful children who I love so so much :oxxxx
Baby girl due april 2016! cant wait to meet her. xxx0 -

Ok. This may be a moneysaving site BUT its also an information sharing site - you ask others for opinions/experiences and digest what's written - a hell of a lot of the posts on these forums, pet care or otherwise, isn't strictly 'moneysaving' is it, but people get to know each other on here and people shouldn't be afraid of raising a subject for fear there isn't a money element in it.
If my post was inappropriate (which it wasn't) two things would have happened:
1) the moderators would have surely blocked/stopped it
2) other posters wouldn't have replied.
Neither happened.
So you know what, I'm not going to post any more on this thread - I am very thankful to all that bothered to post because it helped me get through a stressful evening. I did find your post insensitive Devil, as others have, and wouldn't dream of posting something like you did. You simply cannot read through something that you know is going to upset you and complain about it, that's not normal logic. You know, I get upset at paedophilia stories so when I see title threads with that in I don't read through them, but I respect the right of other forum members to do that that. What I don't read, can't upset me.
However I understand that you are oversensitive on this matter due to your awful experience, you have my very deepest sympathies over the loss of your Mia.0 -
sorry to hear about your cat Doodles. IMHO if your cat is a nervous cat, putting a gas instrument over it's face would make it panic until the gas kicked in. The better method would be to gas it inside a sealed cage, although I'm not sure if any vets provide this. What I'm going to say next is quite disturbing but I've heard tell of cats being electrocuted by the machines used in abattoirs. Obviously the cat feels no pain as it dies instantly, but it's not the prettiest site to watch.
On another note, the Catholic church has announced that there is an animal purgatory as well as one for us humans. So it's good to know that your cat has a spiritual afterlife after it dies.0 -

I didn't read through the whole thread, just the initial post, as I wanted to make sure I wasn't mis-reading the thread.
Thanks for kind words for Mia. I do hope anyone who has lost a loved pet finds comfort in knowing that they are not alone & many of us have experienced similar.0 -
