Devious and unfair Thames Water - customer BEWARE!!!!
Comments
-
hello,
ive recently been informed by a family member that i am paying way too much for my thames water bill. roughly £50 a month 10 months a year (i think). i have a 2 bed maisonett/flat and have only myself in the house. i was not made aware of a water meter being an option when i monved in two years ago and was lead to believe because im in a maisonett/flat, i was unable to have one.
i will be calling thames water ASAP, but just wanted to know if i would still be legible for a complete refund for the past two years?
having read the previous posts, it seems that the people who have been refunded, already had meters, but were anware.
and do you have to pay for a meter to be fitted? (if i dont have one)
any advice would be great.
thanks
Welcome to the forum.
Firstly meters are fitted for free. If they can fit a meter you will have 12 months to decide if a meter will be cheaper, and if not you can revert to your current method of payment. - though it certainly it will be much cheaper for a single occupant.
Secondly, if it is not possible to fit a meter Thames will offer you the opportunity to have an assessed charge which will be a lot lower than £500 pa as you can claim the single occupant charge of £202 pa(for water and sewerage).
You won't be entitled to a refund back until you moved in to the property. Details of how to apply for a meter are supplied with your bill and on the website. It is your responsibility to find out if another method of charging is likely to be cheaper.0 -
the reason why you may have a meter and not be charged is simple if thames water or any other company repair or replace any pipe work they often install meters ready for when a meter is requested if you want to check this just ask your water company to check old accounts at the address to see if the property has ever been charged on a meter in the past if it has then you have a valid case for your account to be back dated to when you moved in. If not then what they have done is 100% right it may not appear to be fair but information is everywhere these days about water meters if you dont check your bills then who's fault is that really ?0
