Why are you angry? He is just trying to help you poor unfortunate souls to get on the ladder that you are so desperate to climb.lostinrates wrote: »
Seriously - this is the final straw for me - I AM VERY ANGRY.
I say well done GB, now get rid of stamp duty, HIPs etc and welcome back to rampant HPI. :rotfl:0 -

Hey pickles, I was looking for that thread too , where is it?
I'm not sure he is helping me actually, how do you think it is?
my 'household' falls under the £60k for a little while longer my guess is its going to be means tested on savings too, otherwise very, very ridiculous surely, not for me, for taxpayers. Personally, with our savings 30% of the asking price might work out as a very low interest loan (thinking of the payback fee, as yet not sure what it is) allowing us to buy 70% outright and pay the rest back within the five years. On the otherhand might have to pay it back (or take mortgage) on the 30% loan amount when we break that 60K barrier. Nothing is that clear yet.
Furthermore I am not clear as to what the purchase price the 30% will go up to. It is likely the cp on the limit might not help me.
Buying a new build is certainly not helping me. The bad press about new build over valuation has not been discreet. Offering such relief to buildrs as opposed to private sellers is not helping me...those privae sellers struggling to cope with the cost of living and their mortgage payments will be draining the reserves through the other half of this scheme and requiring more than they might if they could sell their homes on the same terms.
Raiding tax funds is not helping me. I'd rther any available tax funds went to the things I though taxes were really for. some of that includes social housing and protecting the people, some is the NHS and maintaining services. As someone whose prescription medication is not available on NHS this is really not helping me!
The ladder idea is not helping me. I am not a fresh graduate wanting a studio or one bed, but will rather be looking for a family home. It is my hope to minimise moves after our first purchase. I am, as pointed out, one of the prudent savers, this would, in a normalised market be significantly in my favour, and in h efavour of pruent buyers, thereby minimising the risk to tax payers of needing help with our mortgages and requiring to take from the fund set up to support the overextended.0 -

Why bother they are doing great by themselves0 -
First off let me say that a house should never be an investment but a home - i dont care what my home is worth.
I have paid tens of thousands of pounds in tax every year for the last 25years and never claimed a penny.
I have a modest house and am well able to afford it but if i loose my job i would be lucky to make 40% of my current income as my trade is in freefall and has been for at least 10 years so no chance of another well paid job.
Why is it right for the government pay the same amount as my mortgage to a private landlord or housing association to house my family but not pay to keep me in my home. Finding work or retraining would be hard enough without fear of loosing your home0 -

We've had a version of this scheme in my local area for several years. It's a joke really. There are so many hoops you have to jump through that it really isn't really worth the candle. In my area the maximum value of property you could buy was £200 K which may sound a lot but you can't get a home for a family in London for that.pickles110564 wrote: »

Yet another set back for you prudent savers.:rotfl: :rotfl:
Im quite surprised that the seasoned landlords among us dont think that this idea is crazy. Surely its heading towards hitting SOME in the pcket ( not you obviously pickles we all know that tenants queue up to live in your places, but others in your trade)
If I was a landlord, in a overswamped market of vendors-who-cant-vend-letting -out-instead - the last thing Id want is the tenants to be offered thousands of pounds to stop renting and buy something else instead

 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
