Surely a bank transfer into my Barclays account is the same thing?0 -
Also trying to sell my car on Autotrader and had an email from a 'scammer', but he is offering to pay the funds into my bank account by money transfer. presumably this is cleared cash and the bank won't reverse it. I have a redudant account I can use so there won't be any other funds in there apart from this.
Any thoughts??
They will probably deposit one of their fake/stolen cheques into the account, and try to convince you it was a wire transfer. If they want to send you money, tell them to use a money transfer system that you choose."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -

ForSaleByOwner wrote: »It ain't happening. I can't believe anyone falls for this. This is common sense. I ain't signing a title until I have cash in hand. If they write a check then it will have to pass bank approval before I sign the title.
Do not rely on 'bank approval' or the fact that something has 'cleared'.
If someone wants you to wire them excess money there is an 99.99999999999999999% (approx) chance that they are a crook. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Accounts are frequently 'flashed' with the cash. The scammer phishes a bank account password, makes a transfer, you see the money arrive, then it gets reversed when the account owner spots the problem. If this takes you overdrawn/fees, that's your bad luck. Do NOT trust a bank transfer.0

Scam, no question. Just mail back saying 'cash on collection only', I bet they'll vanish.
You may find the site scamwarners.com helpful - they have a LOT of insight over there, they really know their stuff and may be able to help you identify these kinds of scams for yourself in the future.
BTW - I have edited out your personal info in my post, you may wish to do likewise in yours :-)0 -
'She' tried so hard yet failed so badly.
they realised we have cheques not checks and changed it at the end, couldn't decide if we use England or the United Kingdom, lives at a football club and doesn't know that nobody in Manchester refers to their house as a 'residence'. 7.5/10 a little bit more research and they might pull a scam off.0
