Does anyone know of any fool that has fallen for this old,old scam? Aren't these scams getting a bit tiring now? Do the perpetrators actually ever catch anyone out?
The Nigerian scam is hugely successful. According to a 1997 newspaper article: "We have confirmed losses just in the United States of over $100 million in the last 15 months," said Special Agent James Caldwell, of the Secret Service financial crimes division. "And that's just the ones we know of. We figure a lot of people don't report them."

I read somewhere that it makes a considerable contribution to Nigeria's GDP.

Hi,
I worked for a major investment bank and yes peolpe do fall for these scams.
One that seems to work well at present is the "You've won the lottery" £4 million Euro. - Just a minute I didn't buy a ticket, and if I did I didn't give my email address.
We used to get some pretty !!!!ed off people becauae we wouldn't give them the money, after paying the many thousansd of pounds in "handling and clearing fees".
These things all work on people's greed I'm afraid.
As someone said earlier - if it sounds too true to be good, it is.Eight Little Green Men or Eight Legged Grove Machine?0 -

This is a short transcript of an email I had on 22/6/09. I am selling a car on Autotrader - best read from bottom.
Dear oh dear. Another leech on humanity. (in England, you should write
"you", not "You", you tokoloshe).
Why don't you find a proper job - you must get bored of ripping people
off. Do something nice for a change, something positive, make someone
else happy, not just youself. There are many good people in the world,
when you make them smile, you will smile.

In my case, I was selling a crappy old metro for £300 and this email was telling me his client was urgently looking for one of these and wanted to ship it to spain. Umm, dont think so !!!!!0 -
