On the topic of user interface design / overall usability, has anyone noticed that Google Groups (discussion groups) are fairly unusable and after joining one you will soon want to leave again, perplexed by the uncomfortable experience? Google mail is again something terrifically powerful (and free) but uncomfortable enough so to make me only use small aspects of it.

Wonder of the Chrome browser will go the same way?

Am beginning to think that Google's strength is in building "engines" but not the "upholstery".

Googlegroups aren't a patch on an actual newsgroup reader, simply because of the tarted up interface ;)

It's amazing how different people's opinions of things can be eh? :)

I think GMail and Google Groups are two of the best designed and downright usable web apps around. I use them constantly, daily. I used to be a Microsoft Outlook user, but the combination of Google Mail, Google Calendar, Google Apps and Google Groups are just unbeatable - fast (particularly in Chrome in my experience), always available (even when the internet isn't, thanks to Google Gears), cross-platform (I use Windows at home and Linux at work) and completely free.

Add in the better GMail, better GCal and Better GReader lifehacker addons, and they're incredibly powerful too. Labels, tags, excellent email spam filtering, keyboard shortcuts - I could go on, but I already sound like an advert for Google.

Just my 2p worth ... loving Chrome ...

Have to say, I've just downloaded chrome and am *loving* it so far. The download handling is genius, the minimal look is great and the search/address box is really well implemented....

This may be the browser to finally pull me away from ie...Now, if I can only work these tab things out :D

Ctrl+F ? Works in every browser I know, including Chrome.
