Firefox problems/Crash Dump

Over the last few days I've had problems with Firefox grinding to a halt.
When it stops I've tried closing it and relaunching it, but get a message saying that Firefox is still running - it doesn't show on task manager. I end up having to use the power button to reboot my laptop and it takes ages to boot up again. The laptop has been doing a periodic crash dump for a few weeks. Are the two problems related?
I'm not in the least bit technically minded had have been ignoring the crash dump problem and hoping that it will go away:o, but Firefox has stopped 3 times today:mad:.
Perhaps it's time to sort it out. Any ideas? My OS is Vista BTW.

You aren't using the 3 series by any chance?

That's the new one isn't it? In which case, yes I am - but only because I had trouble logging into another forum, and I thought it was the old version that had got messed up.

Make sure you're completely updated, as one update recently wasn't very stable.
Also are you running many add-on's?

Some people are finding it ok but others are having a lot of problems me included.
I downgraded to the 2 series at oldapps and I don't let it update to the new one.
I have tried the new on on three separate occasions each time I have had to revert to the older version.

I'm writing this from the 18 mins old Google Chrome browser.

    Only the split screen one.
BTW it was crash dumping before I upgraded FF.

Are you using a lot of extensions?
If so you could start by disabling them all and see if that makes a difference.
Have only started using FF recently from Opera myself so am not too familiar yet, but do know that the route of some probs can lie with extensions

Perhaps the problem lies with your computer. Have you checked your system event logs.

    The whats? :confused::o

I think it flashes up a power state failure message of some sort, but being a complete technophobe, the message tends to be gone before I've registered that it's happening.

LOL, don't worry, I'm not much better, hopefully someone techy will come along soon.

In the meantime which operating system are you using?
