    the PC is on 2-4 years old, yes its old but it still does have life, i know for a fact he needs RAM, im going to put the RAM in first then if its not good enough for my uncle, i will just reformat the hard drive, but ill take it one step at a time.

    i will download that CPU-Z

    The Crucial System Scanner will tell you how many RAM slots you have available and what type of RAM you need.

    256Mb for Windows XP is very low these day. My Mum's laptop was also running XP on 256Mb RAM and it was really struggling. I put in an extra 512Mb card for about £8 and it's given it huge boost. It's well worth doing and shouldn't cost too much.

    Just a quick note....has anyone noticed inconsistencies with crucial's scan tool ?? I have, and perhaps I'd better start a new thread rather than hijack this one...

    Personally I always take a look at the ACTUAL ram chips to determine what im getting (Where possible). Im pretty sure that no software will always be 100% correct at determing whats inside various pc's. But by all means, start a new thread :D. Im kinda intrigued as to what youve found actually.
