Why don't you understand this? It's perfectly clear what the OP is annoyed with.
S/he is annoyed that s/he paid in cash late on Friday, they logged it in on the computer but for reasons known only to Barclays they refuse to credit it until Monday (the OP says Wednesday, but I can't believe that is correct for cash).
The OP is rightly annoyed about this, in todays world cash once handed over the counter should be credited immediately. Britains banking system is still in the dark ages.
The OP is simply annoyed with Barclays for having stupid cut offs for cash over the counter, it is entirely understandable and entirely correct to be annoyed.0 -

You really need to change banks.
Any reason why you wouldn't want to switch? If not, do it today.
Well its mainly that Barclays were the only ones that accepted me, was turned down for a current account at all other banks(just offered basic ones) but wanted a Visa debit card.
I do have a current account elsewhere but its a Scottish bank and no branches in over 250 miles! great bank though but no frills
Anyway went to a tiny local branch next to a village shopping centre earlier and the staff were really nice
They thought it was horrible charging me for something so small too.
They told me that the new system took the power away from branches to be able to refund and now customer services are the only ones that can refund.0 -

I understand why the OP doesn't like the cut-off times, but they are laid down in black and white. All that's happened is that they haven't been changed to later times when Barclays have extended their opening hours - effectively all transactions after the old closing time are treated as happening on the next working day.
I can't understand why the OP is talking about Wednesday either.0 -

The way they say it, is it doesnt get processed till Monday, goes on System tuesday but cant be withdrawn from cash machines till Wednesday
Still waiting for the bank transfer money sent Thursday for something I sold btw.
One of the things im annoyed about is they are happy to charge me right away when money comes out, in fees and what I spend but when I give them cash it takes a few days to come through
How is that fair?
If money can be provisionally taken out of my account right away then why not in0 -
I've paid cash to most high street banks over the years (including Barclays) and it's always cleared instantly or as mentioned above by Monday morning if late on a Friday, so if you're waiting till Wednesday you need to be saying something.
However much we dislike paying excessive charges for being overdrawn, if you go into an overdraft that isn't pre-arranged, you are using the banks money and not your own0 -
It is morally wrong, and totally unnecessary. The bank does "hold on to your money before crediting it to your account".MarkyMarkD wrote: »Wig

Reading the OP again s/he does mention Monday for the cash.I can't understand why the OP is talking about Wednesday either.
Just because something is in the T&C does not mean that we should not complain about it.
In Hong Kong in 1992 you could transfer money instantly between bank accounts of the same or different bank just by using an ATM. That was 16 years ago I bet we don't have that service in the UK even today, just a small illustration of how backwards our banks are.0 -
Being charged £44 for being £3 overdrawn is abysmal.
I can understand that perhaps the charges are computer generated and so have been created, but for staff to then refuse to credit the charges in such circumstances and even try to defend them is absolutely ridiculous. I'm not surprised you're changing banks.
The trouble with many banks these days is that they employ trained monkeys to do their work.
Common sense and loyalty to long standing customers often means nothing to them anymore. To defend charging someone £44 over £3 because of a 3.30pm cut off time and then even arguing the case with them is pedantic and small minded. Take your business elsewhere."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Funny really, because I, like many, assume(I know probably wrongly) that if I pay something in before the bank closes at the end of the day, then that is the paying in day. Not the next day. Otherwise I would probably leave the visit to the bank until the next day(because they way they keep closing branches it isn't exactly convenient) at least then they wouldn't have my money for any longer than necessary.
I can't recall the times I have raced to the bank last thing because it had to be "paid in that day"0 -

Sorry Wig, but I don't think so. Dekaspace's post immediately before yours also reiterated the "Wednesday for the cash" point which I have to say makes no sense to me.dekaspace wrote:I was going on about how though I paid money in Friday I cant take it out till Wednesday and its CASH not a cheque
This is generally not the case, although it is in the slightly strange circumstance the OP refers to. Uncleared money isn't "yours". It is still owned by the person paying it to you.Wig wrote:Whilst they hold onto your money which is not theirs.0
