Airline Insolvancy Cover

  • I just purchased a £39 flight on ryanair. I got stung for another£8 as I paid with Maestro. If I used my credit card the value is charge is even higher. BUT, the transaction is sub£100 so there wouldnt be any reason to pay by CC anyway. I understand that I am compellled to pay the debit card charge but does anyone have a way round it, as using my daughters Electron Card or travel insurance is useless.
  • they provide individual add on to your existing travel insurance for £5 each(covers lots of other holiday things) it is for airline failure insurance - we also are going to canada with canadian affair - you have to put in the carrrier when you fill in the form not the booking agent but if say - canadian affair changes carrier when you get to the airport you have to take out another insurance to cover new carrier could be as bit messy at airport trying to get on line but it does give peace of mind
  • insurefor.com covers airline and supplier failure cover as standard for single trip and annual cover.

The cover from insurefor.com is at https://www.supplierfailurecover.com

£4 per person per holiday (£8 pp for annual cover). Seems very widely worded, to cover you for lost deposits, alternative transport to or from your destination.

  • I have purchased Supplier Failure Cover for two at a cost of £8 from supplier failurecover.com
This covers insolvency of the airline either scheduled or charter as well as accomodation with certain caveats up to a value of £5000 per insured person.
If anyone knows of a better insurance policy covering insolvency please let me know.
  • I work in and Insurance Brokers and can confirm that PJ Hayman insurance which can be bought online and througha broker covers airline failure, the premiums are quite competitive and may be worthwhile rather than paying a credit card charge.

they can be found at http://www.pjhayman.com/

My query is on topic so I'll restart this thread: PJ Hayman's site appears squarely aimed at AGENTS per the info I can see there. If I try to get an on-line quote the web page fails. Their office is closed at weekends. However I will try to read up on their sample policy to see if the compensation partway covers the cost of re-booking flights at short notice (am planning a DIY holiday, direct booking of long haul via the airline itself). Also I'll check out if Post Office Insurance is any good for this (also, does it allow single away stays of more than 45 days, a relative may stay out there longer).

I was concerned about this with my Swiftcover policy as the wording is unclear, so I phoned them up and asked if my airline goes bust, will I not only get the cost of the tickets refunded but also the cost of replacement flights. They said yes.

But when it's not in writing will they stick by it?

 That's the question. I asked if all the calls were recorded and she said yes and I made a note of the date. I could have asked for it in writing I suppose but didn't think of it at the time.

At the end of the day if an insurance company wants to wriggle out of something they will because most people don't have either the money or the time to pursue refused claims.
