MrsBartolozzi wrote: »Hi can anyone help please?
I have been working as a temp all this tax year, but with only a few part time posts and so I have not paid any tax yet.
I am due to start working full time in a few weeks and I will then be earning enough to pay tax. My tax code is 543L.
Am I right in thinking that my code will just change to 603L and then I can earn 6035 (minus what I already earned this year) before I pay tax? or is there some other calculation for people not paying tax already this year?
I just want to check that I have not lost out on this £60 that people are talking about.
Thanks
MrsB.
you will get the full benefit of the increase in personal allowance if you earn at least 6035 this tax year.0 -
I have just checked my payslips after reading this thread.
My August slip shows tax code 543L
My September shows 603L
My September next pay is £10 more than August with that being accounted for by a £10 decrease in the amount taxed. My gross is the same for each month.
This looks like I have been changed on the tax code so Sept - March I will benefit, however it doesn't look like I have benefited from Apr - Aug this year.
I have worked for 3 companies, 2 as a contractor before starting a permanent job in July. I was under the impression that as previous tax etc had been sorted that my current employer/payslip would reflect this £60 deduction in tax.
Who would you suggest I contact to resolve this??A+L Loan £168 Hitachi Loan £0 Bank of dad £19,664

you probably ought to be on tax code 603L and not 603L WK1
ask your payroll people why.... did you give them a P45 from your last job?
Once you're on 603L the you will get a tax refund automatically
I did give them my P45 but unfortunatly, the code on that was BR. I called payroll last week and was sent a P46 which I sent in. I was told I would get a refund on the overpayment from teh BR code in a few weeks time.
Will the change from 603L Wk to just 603L happen automatically?0 -

now the p46 has been completed your payroll department will contact the HMRC who will issue the correct i.e. 603L code.0 -

are you sure you are on a 603L code and not a 603L M1 (or similar).. is there anything written after the 603L0 -

It says 603L, However the the field across says Tax Basis - Non Cumulative (this is the same for my August pay)A+L Loan £168 Hitachi Loan £0 Bank of dad £19,664

Which would strongly suggest you are on a non-cumulative basis (Month 1). £10 is exactly the amount refunded each month for anyone on a month 1 basis.0 -

This might help:
Taken from this pageEmployees on a Week 1 or Month 1 code
Employees on a Week 1 or Month 1 code get an increase of £2.30 per week or £10 per month from September. But they aren't able to get the full increase backdated to April until they are back on a cumulative code or until after the end of the tax year when we review their total liability.0 -
