  • Hi there

From april 1st till April 27th this year I received weekly pay. From 28th April till present I have received monthly pay. Im am due to be paid tomorrow, and because I get paid monthly I assumed I would have paid £60 less tax, yet I am only £10 better off this month. I get paid £11551 a year. Have I made a mistake in assuming this, or is there an error with my pay?

    Any help would be appreciated!

Tax code is 562L - please don't say we're not entitled - neeeeeeed the extra money.

    Thanks for your help.

tax codes with an L (like your OH) should have the code increased by 60 during September and hence will see (all other things being equal) a deduction in tax .. for monthly paid workers its equates to a £60 deduction for weekly paid workers it depend a bit on exactly when the new code is applied... it can therefore vary for about £53 to £60 (it all works out the same by month end )
... can you check whether you OH's tax code has changed in the last few weeks ... otherwise his employer must be a bit slow in updating their payroll systems
also 562L is an non standard amount ... does he have some special allowances?

562L goes right back to July, they're the only payslips I have to hand, but I'm guessing they'll all be the same.

Don't know about special allowances. His tax was incorrect last year and we had to pay some back but then it was adjusted to this. Don't suppose you have any idea what allowances may be?? I'm clueless

Thanks again for your help though xxx

since april 2008 the 'normal ' tax code was 543L corresponding to a personal tax free allowance of £5435 ...
so if he had a taxcode of 562L then that's better than normal as it means he gets £5625 before tax is paid... he should have got a notice of coding to explain why he has this coding.

However the tax code for 'normal' people should now be 603L corresponsding to a personal allowance of 6035... the change should take place this month

It would be my belief that mazza is on a code 562L on an emergency basis. As a result he benefits only from the £10 per month reduction in September and not the backdate to April - a popular query to me this month!

Im not on emergancy tax- was on 543l, not sure what it is now, need to check wage slip at work. But only have £150 a month deducted on £11551 a year so definately not emergancy tax.

543L was the emergency tax code but it was also the normal tax code. I think what ceeforcat meant was that you might be taxed on a non-cumulative basis. Do you have M1 or Mth1 appearing in your tax code?
Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place
