  • I have also come to my senses regarding debt...the best tip of all is to leave bank or credit cards at home and draw out cash at the beginning of the week for essentials..do not exceeed the cash limit and write down in a diary every day what you have spent...I have changed my car insurance saving £200 a year...house insurance £182..got rid of mobile contracts and changed to pay as you go £18.00 a month..capped my gas and electricity..not sure if that was a good idea or not yet...water meter saves me £42.00 per month..looking into telephone/broadband packages...I'm currently with BT.. only because they at least "fix faults" unlike TalkTalk who I hate with a vengance...I have chopped Sky to the basics because I do love the Living channels..(no laughing please)...tried Bt vision but it was complete rubbish so it went back...I tweaked my mortgage some time ago so I think that is a pretty good rate...My one reccomendation is a water meter...free to install and if it doesn't work they can revert back..no brainer really..

  • I have enjoyed the past couple of lunch hours reading the threads you have all posted, I must say it has inspired me to actually do something and get my debts straight. I have started by changing my price plan on my mobile phone (to which Im in a 18 month contract with), and downgraded my sky package. I did well with school uniform buying this year it only came to £30 for my DS. Anymore hints and tips you all have would be greatly appreciated. I am quite new to this site and still trying to find my feet. I need to start with some challenges, how would I begin with the £10 a day challenge??

  • Hiya!

This diary is brilliant! I tend to lurk on a few and then switch to another as I dont have time to read everything! I like your style of writing too, very positive.

I turned 40 on Monday and decided it was a good time for a kick up the bum and start sorting myself out. I have lots of debts which all add up to a whacking great total but cannot decide which one to tackle first. so will have to think about that!

    take care all

treated myself to a £6.50 hair trim today, looks good too!

If you wait for perfect conditions, nothing would ever get done! :T
    I'm not short - I'm condensed awesome! :p

LBM is light bulb moment - see DFW dictionary for further details. Basically it's when you realise not just how much debt you are in but also decide to do something about it.
