Single mummy, two kids and having to private rent as my lovely Council decided when I was homeless that judging by my dress I worked, yes, correct, their advice was, sorry your only option, private rent, so off I trotted, stupidly.

Rent £650, no garage, garden, terraced
    C/Tax £80
    Gas £56
    Elec £30
    Water £33
    Contents ins £16
    Phone £14.50
    TV Lic £12

Then mobile, petrol, food etc blah, blah blah

Can't complain the Council recognise that earning £900 a month that I warrant housing benefit.....oh yes, £2.30 per week!!!!!!!!! How I cried. Anyway, they pay me that taking into account child benefit of £31.25 per week, maintenance and the bit from WFTC. Total p!ss take if you ask me but hey am on a council house register and will take six years to get homed being I am housed as I should be because I took their crap advice. Can't change jobs to earn more as would lose a whole lot more, so kinda stuck which is just wrong. Sorry for the moan but like most cost of living a bad joke. Grrrr. Wonder why so many do not work and take all they can get.

The system is far too complicated IMHO.

    Seconded.

    Mine is:

    £600 rent
    £115 council tax
    £12.50 Gas
    £12.50 Water
    £15.00 Electric
    £8 Contents insurance

Utilities are only estimates as we have only had one bill since moving in. This is split between myself and my bf.

Looking at the data provided by the members here, the average fixed costs will be at least 1k.

The average income is 24k and the take home will be 1600 quid per month .......... WOW, WOW, not much change left.

Life is certainly getting harder

Things are very tight for a lot of people, must show my brother this thread (he keeps considering moving out but it's just too expensive and he doesn't believe me!)

    Here...
    Mortgage - £780 ish
    Council Tax - £125 (10 months)
    Water - £59.50
    Gas/Elec - £162
    Contents Ins - £21
    Total = £1147.50

Three bed in South West (had to be with those water costs !), luckily worth about £250k-£300k!

This thread made me do ours.

    Mortgage 445
    Gas/Elec 126
    C/Tax 80
    Ins 33.69
    Water 29.25

    Total - 713.94

3 bed semi, 2 adults, 2 children. Whilst cheaper than a lot of others, mainly because we bought our house before house prices went mad. Some of our bills have shocked me how high they are, and will be looking into reducing them.
  • This makes me want to stay at home, let them come and take away my house and live off benefits for the rest of my life!!!!!

Mortgage- 500 (interest only, can't afford the 720 it would be on repayment!)
    Council Tax - 111
    Electric / Oil - 200
    Water - 36
    B & C insurance - 35

so, that costs me £882 per month...of course, i could include our car expenses here as we would be unable to work without them...i live in an area with no public transport...
