The spite in this thread is out of order

    be nice to all moneysavers

    yeah , my !!!!
  • Haven't capped, as with my current supplier I would be paying £216 extra per year. Don't know which way to jump, change supplier in the hope of getting a cheaper deal, or are we panicking unnessarily? Do all Companies charge more for a capped rate?
I'm searching for a thread on solid fuel, can I ask here for advice on which is the best multi fuel burner to get - a small to medium one in size. The sites I have investigated on line seem to be VERY expensive. I just want to heat the living room, where I used to have a Parkray solid fuel burner - so no radiator. I have loads of logs to burn too. :-)
if i had known then what i know now

There are a number of threads in the 'Fuel and other heating' section of MSE(in Utilities) on solid fuel burners.

Google? Never heard of it ;) . And of course I, as a member of the general public, will decide what I want to believe.
It certainly seems that way if you wish to ignore helpful pointers to information that could give you an idea of the big picture.
I have to say, utterances by the energy companies wouldn't be high on my 'trusted' list. Your 'loosely linked' claim sort of confirms all I require to make this sort of judgement.
How exactly? It's not just energy companies that will tell you this. That continental gas prices are linked to oil is no secret. Find me something that contradicts it.
At no time did I read at the time the correlation was made by energy companies that the price of gas was linked to the price of gas that the link was 'loose'.
Neither was their any claim that it was tied directly. A correlation is exactly that: a correlation. Year-on-year gas prices are what determine what we, the end users, pay for our gas. Not month-on-month prices of oil.

Let's see, what are oil prices now? $109? What were they 12 months ago? $70? So that's, what, a 56% increase? And it has been higher.

Domestic gas prices... increases of about 15% earlier this year, plus increases of 35% now? 1.15*1.35=1.5525 Hmm.... an increase of 55%. I don't see a conspiracy here. Move along.
But, of course, at the time oil was at an all-time high price and now it's approx 30% off that high. Now it's 'loosely linked' . If you didn't work in the industry, I'm sure you would understand I, and maybe millions of others', scepticism.
"Now" it's loosely linked? When was it not?

Have you been reading certain tabloid newspapers by any chance? They love to start [strike]headlines[/strike] non-stories with "Now it's".
  • Mech, could you provide a link to an energy company spokesperson explaining a few months ago that the price of gas was *loosely* linked to the price of oil. I can't find one but as you know I'm rubbish with Google. TIA!
    Call me Carmine....

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??
  • I didn't fix or cap. I'm with E-on Online Energysaver 5. Don't know whether I should change to Energysaver 8 as the price is cheaper than my current tarrif, but not sure whether it will increase or not in the near future. Having looked at Martin's warning that online prices don't always increase at the same time as the standard tarrif I'm confused as to what to do.

I've just changed to Energysaver 8 from 5. I did phone up to see about the capped one they are advertising to July 2010 but this would cost me another £21 a month. She told me the Energysaver 5 had gone up with the last increase but the 8 hasnt and wont go up till the next round of price increases which hopefully wont be for a while yet. Not sure how much you can trust what they say but I have changed to the 8 for now. I think its worth doing untill you decide what to do, you may as well have the cheapest one you can for now even if you decide to cap later on.

I've already provided all the information you need. You have ignored it because now you want to play a game of "I said/you said". Well I'm not playing. You don't care what energy companies say anyway as you won't believe them and already know what you want to believe.

Look at the historical data I provided links to. Look closely and you'll see I also told you where to find the graphs of historical data. I found pretty graphics in case you didn't want to read all the boring text.

I too changed earlier this week - didn't know how much of a risk it would be but am glad to hear what you've been told on the phone. Hopefully they aren't telling big fibs!!
