Well, this certainly makes me feel I'm not alone if nothing else! I know that I'm not going to meet people hiding at home, but that doesn't stop me being to scared to go out. It just gets so easy to think everyone else is always out doing things, whereas every week at work they ask if I have anything planned for the weekend, and every week its the same...'err...nope'.
I joined a gym but never went cause I was too embarrased that I hardly ever went (rather self perpetuating there). We can't afford for me to do things that cost money, but I don't really want to get a second job cause I don't want my life to be all about work (rubs it in rather as my husband is a student and has spent the past 3 months sitting at home on his holidays while I have been out working). I've seem a free meditation class just round the corner that I will try to get the guts up to go to, maybe by saying I will go on here it will give me the nerve to get out there!0 -
HI Ebany,
get yourself along to the meditation class.
I moved to a semi rural area 15 years ago, met no-one apart from 1 neighbour for the first 2 years whilst we renovated a derelict property. then left to live in Dubai for 2 years.
With no kids, I never met up with ladies at school gates etc.
I joined a meditation class 3 months ago and it is the best thing I have done. I have forged a network with a few local ladies, we allways linger behind class for a chat, met up at one's house last night, for a girly nght.
I return to my meditation class after a break for 4 weeks on Wednseday, so I will come back to check that you have been along too :-)
Take a bottle of water and a shawl / fleece blanket for over your lap too as you can get cool after chilling out0 -
I've moved this to the England thread
MSE does not encourage the exchange of personal details as in some cases this can be dangerous
I hope you can get some help here on other ways to make friends in your area
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. A vote for evening classes here: I became quite isolated a few years ago, but classes have helped me break out of that. they're about to re-start too, so it's a good time of year.
Also community choirs are worth looking out for!
ginvzt, WI should be friendly, but it would be worth plucking up courage and phoning the secretary beforehand. If you say you're a bit shy, they will hopefully look out for you and introduce you to someone else at your first meeting.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I've pm'd you Ebany.
