They all keep a mental record of who tips and who doesn't, if you are a regular at a place it is incredible how much better service you get when you go back!

  • Hi,im a hairdresser and id just like to say that we dont keep a mental record-well i dont! of who tips and work accordingly to who is the best tipper so they get the better cut..id be mortified if i had not sent any client out with a cut/colour which wasnt carried out to the best of my ability/knowledge,ok ok so i know some people in this world are not like me buti have worked with alot of people over the years and most i have worked with dont expect tips but are very greatful to be appreciated if they do get one as the salon may be expensive but you can bet all the staff are on minimum wage and work overly long hours through lunch and break times without being paid extra for it,so if you have a lunchtime appointment one day theres a good chance that stylist has given up there lunch hour to look after you not through choice mainly either-yeah i know theres going to be people who say well thats your fault you dont have a lunch blah blah and you should have your lunch, but it just doesnt work like that you work through or you dont work there its as simple as,you cant just walk off and leave someone half way through because its lunch time. i love my clients to bits tips or no tips, some people tip, some dont, some people give you cards and gifts at xmas again some dont we (i) dont expect them.you get to know your clients and there lives and knowing that my services has made a world of difference to some people and that they return in the future is enough for me,so please dont feel bad and feel as you have to tip-if your stylist knows you and you feel comfortable with them you shouldnt feel awkward at all-if you do then its not the salon for you..as for juniors who wash hair etc i used to be gobsmacked when someone left a tip for me as the juniors work very hard and get very little thanks from anyone (staff or clients tbh) so 50p here and there used to go very far in my £40 a week wage hth
